Another day another thing dying! Oh well all good ay? So the starter motor is sticking at times now and working for less time between having to tap it. So I'm going to get it off this weekend, what can I do to service it when it's off? If not anyone recommend where to get a replacement?
Also I've just noticed a fairly loud whine coming from the rear driver side near the petrol tank, I'm guessing this is the lifter pump as it's low on petrol too, so when I fill up tomorrow if the whine stops then do I have it right? And if not what else could it be? Do VW still do the part as I don't fancy a GSF pump :( And lastely if it is my lifter pump if I keep the petrol level high will it damage my main pump still over the course of a week or two if I can't afford or get a part straight away?

Hi
A blocked fuel filter.
-
Would this still make a loud whine then? So if it was the filter it'd do it if the tank was full or empty right?
-
Hi
The whine is because the pump is working harder.
If the fuel filter has not been changed, then changing the fuel filter is the cheaper option. It also rules it out if the whine continues.

Just replace the lift pump (the one in the tank), they're about £20 and it takes about 10mins. Changing the fuel filter is a swine of a job and they're still a tenner

disconnect the 2 pin plug from the main pump under the car and turn the key 1 click, you should hear the in-tank pump prime. if it doesn't theres your problem. check the wiring to it before you replace, can get to it by lifting boot carpet and removing the black round metal disc.

I've never found changing the fuel filter to be a bad job before?! But that's on my list to change when I service it in a month or so anyway so I'll be doing that then. I'll disconect the main pump and see if the lifter one is working on ignition then rubjohhny, if not I'll see about changing that ASAP.
Anyone got any advice abuot the starter motor servicing?

K so does anyone know if VW still sell the in tank lifter pump for my 92 8v Digi? And if so a part number and price? Thank you in advance!

GSF - 183VG0320 FUEL PUMP-IN TANK G2 1.8 8v F.Inj 8/83 >10/91 21.50 + vat
Gsf ones are fine

Starter motor; Just clean all the gunk out from around the shaft and then it should be easier to spin up. If I were you i'd just get a replacement to be fair, less hassle and then you can have a look at the old one, clean it up and then you got a spare :)

I've not been convinced by some previous parts from GSF, and have heard about pumps, switches etc being a little on the sh!te side. If I have to then I will but does anyone have ETKA handy to see if VW list them still please?

Anyone???

It's shown on vag-cat but there is no part number. Prob best to just ring vw and ask.
