Title: What could it be?

Im looking at buying a MK3 gti 8v at the moment or a 16v both have problems the 8v's being when it gets hot it cuts out, wait for it to cool and it goes again. the 16v has an "slight alarm problem" hopefully this doesnt mean its nicked  :shocked:

but what tips would you give me when looking at these and others?

Deff the crank sensor dude £40 GSF locate behind the dizzy in the engine block, you have to take the front engine mount off to get to it mate, ho and don't for get to jack the engine up under neath when taking the bolts out for the mounting block other wise you'll never get it back in.
