Title: Wiring my head set
Post by: lordxbox on 02 March 2010, 15:44
just bought a mk3 golf 1.8 without a headunit, i have just plugged in and it doesn't work. the head unit is a sony cdx-gt5oui.

the guy before me had it for only a week and the guy he bought if off had a system in he took out!

i know this is a long shot but does ayone have a pic of what the wres should look like ? or where to look for the problem? when he ripped it out the drivers side window stopped working aswell!

just need a place to start looking as if tried to rewire headunit connection- to no avail  :undecided:

any thoughts would be muchly apprecaited!

check the MK3 stereo plug, there should be a red (live), brown (earth) and a brown red (key-in-ignition live). may be other wires but these are unimportant.

you need to run the red wire from the HU to the brown red, and the yellow wire to the red. black to brown.

if that doesnt work, try putting both the red & yel wires to the red wire on the plug, could be key-in-ign is dead or chopped somewhere.

oh dear! look slike you'll be digging in the dash for the speaker wiring, see if its been chopped! the rear speakers connect to a 4 pin plug on the passenger side, in the footwell area or a little further up behind the dash.

is front tweeter the dash speakers?

yep tweeters are in the dash (although it does depend on the model as some base cars have full range speakers there!)

think im just going to stick with my ipod for a month till i get my gti, its confusing in that on the wirein diagram it goes to right front speaker the tweeter? am i reading write?

then it gets more confusing because im adding speakers with crossovers argghhhhh

yeah from the factory the door and dash speakers are wired in together. you'll see there is a 4 pin plug to the stereo, 4 wires for the front speakers and 4 wires to the back!

never know what previous owners have done to the wiring, seen some right mess over the years :(
