Title: Phone Kit options
Post by: Ess_Three on 01 March 2010, 11:50
Mk6 GTI phone kits...

Folks, I've seen several threads about these, but I'm still confused.
What are the options?
Most seem easy enough to fit, some need coding with VCDS...no real problems there.
...but do microphones need fitting or do VW fit one regardless?
...do they work with the steering wheel controls?
...do they work with Blackberrys?

The options seem to be:
Fiscon
VW Bluetooth
Mobridge?

Can anyone shed any light?
Cheers,

Glen.

I have RNS510 with fiscon unit, and voice activation thingy.. works very well with both my Blackberry's (Curve and Bold 2). Steering wheel functions needed coding but I am able to dial, with the MFSW amongst other things. Works excellent everytime and phone book is updated everytime i connect via bluetooth.

I'll check to see what I've ordered  -  apparently, I had to be careful because I've got an iphone and iphones are not compatible with some of the hands-free/blue tooth kits out there.....wait a sec....I've ordered something called a VW Touch Phone.

After alot of investigating myself I will be going for the Fiscon set up. Been in touch with Rich from Fiscon UK and it seems like the superior device

Theres a few options:

One is the dealer fit Touch kit, this gives you a small screen looks kinda sat nav-ish, that attaches to a bracket.
Theres the Fiscon and MoBridge options, which are quite close to factory fit, and they allow use of iPhone and Blackberry.
Theres VW`s own factory fit, but if you order this with your car, you will be limited to rSAP phones - i.e. not iPhone or BB.
Then theres the kit I have, but not fitted yet, which is original VW kit like they would fit at the factory, but isnt tied to rSAP phones only. Got mine off ebay a few weeks ago.

Hope that helps some...

This is one of the sellers auctions...this actual one doesnt say it works with non-rSAP phones though, a PM to the seller would be best methinks...

I know it wasn't directed at the Fiscon but yes the Fiscon can answer and end calls via the phone button.

With regard to Fiscon,

You remove the RCD/RNS, fit it, replace RCD/RNS and code it...and that's it?
No microphone cables to run?

I asked about the VW thingy today, and can't get a straight answer out of them as to whether or not it has an external microphone you (VW dealer) need to install, or if it used an already existing but unused factory fitted mic.
Anyone know?

No. You need to run a mic to wherever you want to situate it. I ran mine to the top of the A frame (less than 5 minute job) others run it to top of steering wheel mount and others to the light unit in the overhead compartment.

Not sure if you have your car yet but I asked my dealer to enable "telephone 77 on the CAN gateway" during the PDI and then it was just a matter of plug and play for me.

I am quite sure a mic has to be fitted. There is however a purpose built place for them... near the console in the roof. Its a little square bit with holes designed for mic's so its not visible once fitted

Yes the functionality is spot on... my mic is in a similar place to gossa's but if I had know at the time of fitting I would of had it put in the correct place, totally out of view.

Yeah it looks better out the way but I have read a few folk complaining it also sounds muffled in there.

Ahhh... i think that space is designed for the proper square shaped VW mic so maybe a little extra padding is required. Mine is just behind the rear view mirror, not really noticable at all and works a treat. Probably a similar distance from the driver as gossa's is.

I was all for goin for the mObridge kit until damian started having all the issues with his RNS, kind of put me off, it's probably nout to do with the kit but you never know do ya? I also thought about gettin it put in that housing by the light until i heard that it was quite muffled, however i'm going to get mine fitted by fiscon so i suppose i could ask them to try it there first, and try makin a few calls while i'm there.

I actually PM'd rich at fiscon last week to ask if they are doin another free fit day, he said he's collecting details for the next one, my only issue is that it doesn't look like i'm getting mine till mid/end of april. Do we think it's worth startin a thread for interested people?

I thought the phone button didn't work, and the OK button had to be used?

I preffer, and have, the kit from the Poland guys, works 100% perfect and is VW original, mic installed in the original place above your head in the interior light.
You can coded it with the vag.com cable, example make the sound louder or quieter for optimal call.
Steering wheel buttons all work.

If you want to use the Fiscon kit, you can also place the (fiscon) mic in the original place, look here;

No, it works on mine.
I think the confusion is if you press the phone button on the wheel with the VW kit, it brings up the phone options. It doesn't do this on the Fiscon, it does however allow you to answer and drop calls the exact same way the OK button does.

Post by: TFSiLover on 11 March 2010, 21:38
Whats the best kit if you want to use 2 phones, would like one that is easy to switch from one phone to another.  Also, do these kits show your address book on just the sim card like some of the Audi systems?

You can pair up to 5 phones with the Fiscon. It automatically updates the RCD/RNS 510 screen with the details of the phone connected.
You would have to disable bluetooth in order for it to switch to the other phone though.
