Title: Changing PAS belt...
Post by: twistedblack69 on 28 February 2010, 11:27
Posting this from work on my phone, so don't have the privilege of the search function lol but planning on changing my PAS belt when I get home, how do I go about this? It'll be my first belt change, so if anyones up for writing a guide, put it in the simplest of simple terms lol. If anyone has a link to a guide...awesome :)

Jack the cap, support it properly, remove drivers side wheel for easier access, place drivers wheel under car in case your support goes.

Looking from under the car located at the front of the engine at the PS pump, where the PS belt goes over, you'll see some bolts holding the PS pump in place, iirc (done it over 6months ago and only once ever) there are 2 or 3 bolts that I loosened (might only be 1), which will allow you to tighten / slack off the belt by rocking the pump up/down.

I did mine pretty much at the spur of the moment without any research, it took me about 4 hours but that was only because I had my father in law telling me not to loosen the bolts because it looked important  He buggered off inside to make a cuppa and I loosened the bolts, whipped the PS belt over and by the time he came back out I was getting the alternator belt tensioned properly :afro:

It will make sense once you have your head under the car.

did mine the other day, there is also one bolt inside of the mounting bracket on the front of the engine, as you look down the3 b racket is directly below the alternator and if you go in from the right there is a pivot bolt there, then its just the other pivot dolt, the 2 lock bolts on the pump itself and the tensioner, easy once you find them all. i also removed the grill and worked through it for easier access to the pivot bolts

Cheers for the help guys :) managed to do it and only snapping the tensioner belt (it was bent about 10degrees lol) only thing is when it gets to full lock, it sounds like the belt is rubbing on something....is this just what the pump sounds like? It makes the noise while I'm turning, but just more so when it gets to full lock

Could be low on PAS fluid, belt incorrectly tensioned or pump buggered.

When you tensioned it up did you make sure the belt was flush with the pulley lip?

Was it making the noise before you changed the belt?

How do you mean flush? As in is the belt recessed from the edge of the pulley? Then yea. All it was doing before was squealing lol

Check your PAS fluid level, when was the last time the fluid was changed?

At least a year ago (when I bought it lol). Is their a particular type of PAS fluid I should go for if it needs topping up? Just go to GSF and get some? Can I just top it up or do I need to flush the system?
