Arrived today, bought off ebay, Ive been after one of these for ages, but always went for stupid money...£130+ in some cases, so was happy at £30+pp...
It looked in great shape, only very grubby and fluff filled, so was stripped down to its individual components, and washed thoroughly in very hot soapy water, dried, and each item was given a shot of Mr Sheene, wiped, and reassembled, and is now in mint condition

It looks pristine - how about a pic of it installed? I would be interested to know how well designed it was for fitting.
Nice buy - saw a CD version go for £45 recently. Even rarer I guess so a good price.

Sorry but think you paid over the odds for that, its the cd versions that go for mega money, the cassette ones are worthless, i got mine for free as did a few other people i know!

CD version is useless to me, as I have the origional Blaupunkt tape player..... and I'll spend 30 quid on a round of drinks tonite at the Pub!
Its like anything else, you try finding something that's becoming rarer, year to year... you'll kick yourself for it, and ending up with nothing....
I just need some sh!tty old 80s tapes to fill it up now, any suggestions will be taken with a pinch of salt :grin:
I'll get a pic of it fitted...

And one of another parts that I also paid £30 for, the black trim that fits across the inside of the rear panel, recently deleted from VW stock, brand new, they were £13+vat, but getting like hens teeth in mint condition....

Just bought one myself for a lot less than that in perfect condition but I'm planning to run VDOs now so I'll need the space for them!
My plan was to modify the bottom tape slot into an ipod holder/dock though :)

i got one, but the cassette trays have been removed and replaced with a koni damping control panel :cool:

But you wanted it, an you didnt mind payin 30 quid 4 it so it doe matter if sumone got 1 for 10p,

I was thinking of using the space for a cup holder.(It's the only mod-con I miss from my Passat!) :grin: Anyone have any experience of doing this or are the ones you hang on the door any good?

Hey Rob, how you doing, at the time that I bought that trim from you, (Sept ish) the Cboxes were fetching stupid money, so gave them a miss, seems the value, and interest had died off, so was reflected in the price that someone has to pay... possibly driven by speculation and demand over on Ed38, who knows... Im sure that threads like this one help the sellers, but not so much the buyers! :lipsrsealed:
Dead chuffed with the boot trim by the way, it took some very very careful cleaning, but an important detail finished..

I modified the cassette holder in mine - the top 2 trays store tapes, the others have been trimmed/butchered to fit my voltmeter!

Off topic... but you guys know what you are talking about....
Votex center unit with dials... Was this unit "Adapted" from a standard console unit? The reason I ask is I have just bought one and I am not sure now I have it, if its a genuine one...
The gauges are not VDO and they are mounted in a SWG offset mounting which points in the direction of the driver, but this don't fit properly... and on close inspection the actual Votex casing looks like its been screwed to the front of a hacked standard console.
Anyone got any pictures?

Look in the underside of the little tray on top the console there will be a part number on it there iirc. I have one out in my shed bunker thing.. ill take a look to if you dont spot anything and get a pic, miens genuine and handed to me free by a amte with a track car as i helped him out on a load of work!

X4MGS - Sounds like you have a SWG one. Scene whores can spot replica's a mile off so post some pics. They are all modded to fit the original centre console.

that looks genuine (think you can tell by the shape of the edges). Just the VDO holder is SWG

thats a genuine, the swg ones are the wrong colour and far too shiny. note how plastic of the console is the same shade and shinyness of the votex :)
