Thinking of having a remap once i change my car, but not sure whether to tell my insurance company or not.

You don't declare - you're insurance is INVALID!!

Very unlikely it would be checked and also hard to verify isnt it in the event of an accident? Your supposed to but with something like that you could say you never knew as it is not a visual modification

Loss adjusters and insurance companys know only too well about remaps. Especially turbo cars.
You are stupid if you dont tell them IMO.

As already said, this will invalidate your insurance. Imagine you have an accident involving someone with no insurance and your beloved golf gets ruined. You would then have to pay to have it repaired yourself. No help from any insurers. Your car could even be written off leaving you with nothing! Now imagine being the one making that happen to somebody else cos if you don't tell your insurance company then that will be what will happen. If your man enough to get a re-map then be man enough to pay the extra on the insurance!

Why re-map I nearly killed my self in a 995CC mini, I will stick with what I have got!! :cool:

Because the remap makes the car the way it should have been from the factory. :smiley:
An old skool mini has 39 bhp :shocked:

Notified direct line of my remap Friday. Initially they said there would be no further premium to pay as it was only tuning :smiley: , but when I asked them to confirm in writing they changed their minds and added £38 for the remaining 8 months.
I think if you have an accident and the repairers drive the car they will spot a remap a mile away and may well inform the insurers?

WTF! I asked direct line how a remap would affect my premium - the quote they gave me was a £400 increase on what i'm currently paying! I've got no points, 2 years NCB...

i'd declare it, i know what i'd do to someone if they crashed into me and said they weren't insured. :angry:
besides if you were gonna not tell them i wouldn't post on a public forum so everyone can see

i havnt even got the car to remap yet as i still have my 2.0 slow. i will be informing the insurers jus hope it wont increase the premium too much.

If you dont declare it your insurance would have been invalid. What if you then seriously injure/kill someone and have to pay the hundreds of thousands of pounds compensation?
Anyway more to the point, how are you finding the map? :cool:

when i had my golf i remapped it plus had loads of mods on it and never told the insurance i was bricking because i thought they might VOID it.
but lucky enought i got payed out how i will never know but m8 i wud defo tell them not worth the head ache.

Ah, that'd probably be it. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 26.
My situation probably wasn't helped by the fact that the guy in India had truly no idea what i was trying to get a quote for. Even after I spelled it out. I'm sure Directline have some english call centres - might try each number until I get lucky.
Edit: Just called back, managed to speak to someone who knew what I was talking about. £452 increase for stage 1 remap. :cry:

Ouch!! have you tried the likes of HIC / Greenlight (both forum sponsors) or Brentacre
More likely to get a much better deal :wink:

Yeah, I've been meaning to look into them for a while. I think Greenlight came recommended. It's probably snobbery/stupidity but I've always been a bit more apprehensive about going with the smaller insurance companies. Chances are, though, that they'd look after me a lot better than Direct Line and their delightful ilk...

Agrre with everyones comments posted a re-map SHOULD be mentioned to the insurance company at least if the worst happens you know your covered and won't find out in the event of needing to claim your cover is invalid always best to mention stuff to your insurance company really
