Title: Driving with hand always on gear stick.
Post by: christomk3gti on 27 February 2010, 01:39
I was told that doing this causes the gearbox to f**k up...... and apparently its in the manual.... Is this correct??

Funnily enough i've never done it since i bought my gti over a year ago.... thought i'd mention it and see if it was correct or not...  :undecided:

yeah it causes the selector forks in the 'box to press against the shift bearings and eventually it will start whining. Wont exactly break the box but will make it noisy and wear the forks out or heat the tips & bearing up.....not good but not drastic in the short term.....
