Title: Collected my GTD yesterday
Post by: danski on 26 February 2010, 07:55
Happy Dayz !!
Only took about 4 months, love it though, only had 7 miles on the clock when collected.

...at least I loved it till I got in to come to work this morning.
Noticed quite a few water drops on the rear seat behind the drivers seat, after groping around it looks like the top of the rear window is leaking water - its been raining most of the night. The head liner by the window is absolutely sodden, I mean dragging my fingers along it looks like I just ran my hand under a tap.

Emailed dealership already, have to see what they can do for me. Bit P`d off, not even had it 24 hours

Oh well, heres a couple of pics:

I should have said -
18 Vancouvers
RCD510
Storage pack
Winter pack
Leather
Cruise Control
Deep Pearl Black

I took the tyre insurance in the end, its been extended to cover 3 years now, and of course the servicing for £250.
Gap cover back to invoice I found much cheaper on t`interweb, they offered to match it, but with less coverage, so knocked that back.

I wanted DSG as well as (and ACC and Xenons), but GF doesnt like auto`s and between leather and Xenons I fancied leather more - though now I wish I had Xenons too
Never mind, I`ve already got extreme bulds to go in.

Aye, sometimes she does
Shes paying for half the car cos I`m still paying the loan for the POS money pit of a Passat that I got about 2 years ago, so had to let her have some say in it - she`s under the impression that she will drive it sometimes....yeah, as if

Steve30 - I'm interested to see that you are going from an Ed30 to a GTD. I myself am contemplating a change as my Ed30 is now 3yrs old and is due to be changed. What made you switch to diesel and how does the GTD compare as a drive to the Ed?

Interested in your comments.

Cheers, Dan.

I just loved the the GTD after testing it 3 times , felt its a big improvement and more refined + More MPG !! The Ed30 is a brilliant car don't get me wrong , but its time to move on. I'm only getting 18mpg in London, also travel up to Burnley a lot and Manchester. The DSG GTD is an outstanding motor IMO , and makes a great exuast noise!! I got a £29,00 car loaded for £25,600 which is a great deal? Hope this helps thanks Steve

I had a similar problem although it was between two mk6s. I was undecided between the GTI and the GTD. Both are great cars but in the end I think it should be easy to decide depending on your priorities. First think about how important mpg/economy is. If it's high priority get the GTD else get the GTI. In the UK I think they cost about the same so that's not an issue. I find the hardest decisions to be which options you should get. Good luck!

Thanks to you both for your comments.

As has been discussed in previous threads, upgrading from a Mk5 to a Mk6 is quite a difficult one to justify as the 6, although better, I'm not doubting that, it is not a massive leap forward, and so I'm finding it a tough, from a personal justification point of view.

I'm looking at alternative cars BUT I just cannot find a car that ticks all of my boxes the in the way that a Golf does!! Anyway, I'm sure I'll make a decision soon, it'll either be a GTi, GTD or dare I say it an 'R'.

Good luck and happy motoring with the GTD's.

Anyone know how airbags react when they get soggy?

Just been out to the car and the roof liner, B and C pillars are getting worse and worse - no word off the dealers since 9.30 this morning and just sent another email !

Thanks evryone for your comments by the way

I don't know how the rain affects them but that is horrendous...so upsetting. I really hope you get it sorted quickly!

From the pics you have posted it looks like you have a 3door GTD so I am wondering how the back window can be leaking I thought the back window on the 3 door didn't open, or are you saying that it is a really bad fit?

Hi Gizzy, yep its a 3 door, I think that the seal on the window is iffy - cant think of anywhere else the water could be getting in, and its there that the liner is soggy-est.
Just spoken to the sales guy, he`s robbing the sales managers GTD for me to use till they fix mine, so least I`ll have one to drive round in - think his is a red one.

That's the pits on a brand new car, result tho if you are getting a replacement to drive around in.

Good luck

Gizzy

Very nice. The Vancouvers are so much nicer than the Monzas. If they'd been available on the GTI, I'd probably have gone with them. Enjoy
