Title: Cooling fans question
Post by: Mr_Orange on 25 February 2010, 17:40
Posted a while back about cooling fans not seeming to kick in.  Maybe once or twice max I've known them to spin up briefly.  Are they really so quiet to never hear them, ie I never notice them being on after a good run either?

Car does not overheat, once warm sits at 90° quite happily.  Both fans work when I pop on the air-con and go have a look too.

Might sound odd, I thought it was me imagining it, but what's gunna make the fans kick in briefly a couple of minutes after firing up when the engine is still cold?   :undecided:

Could the things I'm observing be signs of a ropey radiator fan-switch?

Related?  I've already replaced coolant (genuine G++), thermostat and temp sender.

Bump,

This isn't the usual fans question as they both spin slow with the AC on.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds normal mate especially this time of year. As long as they run with the aircon then I would say all is normal. It has to be really hot like 35oC for them to kick in fast.

Unless your sat in a motorway jam for an hour or more I doubt your fans come on often to cool the radiator.

Yes mate & yes mate.

Thanks, but not sure I want to go down that slippery slope, it'll end up a flame spitting 400bhp beast!
