Try this dude

ABS brakes were standard on sporting models and optional on all others. A driver's airbag was fitted from 1994 onwards, whilst a passenger airbag was optional. Early locks were quite poor, improved later and an immobiliser was fitted from 1994 onwards.

As taken from BoneyBradleys ste:

Model Updates: October 1994 the GTI receives Long beach alloy wheels and abs as standard fit and All models get driver airbag & engine immobiliser. July 1995 All models get oval indicators, all GTI models now have the bee sting aerial. September 1996 ABS standard fit for all models and fog lights standard on all GTI models

anything before October 94 would NOT have ABS. My GTi is a 93 and doesn't have any of the above!

well, basically the chap he sold it to is trying to pull a fast one, it was sold through ebay as needing work for £500 and the buyer is now saying it needs around £7-800 spent to sort the steering and braking systems out! my friend was as honest as possible with the buyer and he went away happy but came back a few days ago saying its going to go through the courts etc etc as the car is unfit for purpose! My friend has offered to help out with costs slightly if he takes it to a local dealer to diagnose the issues but the buyer isnt keen on that and just want cash up front!....

Well sold as seen needing work I would tell the guy to go forth to be honest, if it was a private sale the buyer has no comeback.

He won't get anywhere with the courts as long as the car was advertised with all the faults he knew about. Also if he has a signed recipet saying "Sold as seen" then the buyer doen't have a leg to stand on.

In a private sale it does, I know have trid in the past with issues and got nowhere, buying from a trader is a whold different ballgame however.

My GTI does not have ABS....
Its a 1996 model. Why would this be?
does anyone know all the parts needed to install ABS? I.E. Sensors, ABS pump, electronics etc
Title: Re: ABS fitted to all Mk3 8v GTI's? *Urgent*
Post by: FlySpeck on 03 March 2010, 22:08
minimum would be pump, abs ecu and harness mate, plus 4 x wheel speed sensors and 4 x hubs with the detector rings.

To the OP - if you can get a hold of the codes from the inside front cover on the service book it has the options the car came with, such as abs, leather etc. Need to run it thru the options vin decoder and it will produce a list, cant remember the site but you just google vag vin decoder

you need all the codes - not just the vin btw for the full options list.

Heres mine:

Quote
X2B = National sales program Great Britain
B0N = Component parts set, complying with vehicle type for Great Britain, various parts
C2D = Alloy wheels 6J x 14 offset 43 (6L0 601 025)
G0C = 5-speed manual transmission
H1V = Tires 225/45 R17
J1L = Battery 280 A (60 Ah)
M7S = 6-cyl. gasoline engine 2.8 L/128 kW VR6 Motronic, catalytic converter base engine is T6N
Q1X = Sports front seats with integrated storage trays
1AE = Electronic differential lock (EDL/ABS)
1G6 = Space-saving spare wheel
1MV = Leather steering wheel
1NL = Covers for alloy wheels
3AV = Right exterior mirror: aspherical, electrically adjustable and heated
3BF = Left exterior mirror: convex, electrically adjustable and heated
T6N = 6-cylinder gasoline engine 2.8 L unit 021.A
0BE = Rear stabilizer
3S0 = Without roof rails/roof load rack
3V1 = Child bench seat
5J1 = Rear spoiler
0G4 = Cable gearshift
8GM = Alternator 70 A
8L3 = Roof antenna
1H1 = Load-sensitive proportioning valve
1KD = Disc brakes, rear
1LD = Disc brakes, front
3FE = Electric slide/tilt sunroof with sun screen/sunblind
3YH = Door pockets, front
1BA = Standard suspension/shock absorption

on all private sales it's "caveat emptor" (as trading standards and the courts will agree..tell him to fook off)

oh and spec wise....vw do cock things up and I'm guessing kells motor is an odd one
(like my feb 97 passat that vw uk say is a b4 as they didn't sell the b5 until may 97....they even said it's a dvla error on the log book despite having the handbook with dealer stamp that also says feb 97)

yep, we all know vw do some strange things epecially with the dates and specs..im not sure if the rims have date codes on them like for example series 1 RS turbos have, be interesting if they did!

So your car has 14" alloys with 17" tyres and alloy wheel covers? Damn that's impressive :grin:

Provided your mate was as honest as possible during the transaction of the car and listed the faults as he knew them, then the buyer doesn't have a leg to stand on. Also it seems weird that the guy isn't prepared to get the car checked out by a qualified dealer. If he wanted to take your mate to court he'd have to be able to show that your mate misled him in some way and in order to do that would have to evidence his findings i.e through a qualified dealer.

You should tell your mate that the next time the buyer contacts him demanding money that he will be breaking off communication with him and that if he would like to take you to court then to go through the proper channels. Also that if he calls again after that then you will be informing the police as this is harassment.

Point of interest: This is a well known scam. There are people that will buy cheap cars, then harass the seller claiming that the vehicle is faulty in some way and attempt to get back more than they paid for it in the first place.Then selling the car on making a tidy profit. These people can be really pushy and even threatening. So if you feel this is the case call the police and get there advise.

Hope this helps.

Andy

as far as my info says..abs was optional until they fitted the safety kit in 94 (airbag & abs as std).. but the fog's were optional until 97 model year (mid 96?) when all cars got the roof aerial as well

lol Joe, I know...thats the magic of vw, 17" tyres on 14" wheels haha - the vin decoder may be wrong, but i think its the option code on my motor. The v5 says 1992, but the vin number, and the manufacturing stamp on the car say 1993....so it was built a year after it was bought and registered too! All the numbers match up btw, I checked that, before anyone says anything....dvla cant explain it either.

Its a time machine as well as bending the laws of tyre physics :grin:

lol, it wouldn't of even had 14's on it, it would have had 15" BBS's. And those 17" tyres are way too big for a Mk3 so doubt they would ever have been on the car

aye, thats the size of tyres on the bk 17's I have now, dunno what the oems were like.
