Title: New to the site and to gti's
Post by: Bretty on 23 February 2010, 16:22
I went looking at a mk3 gti today 16v. It's done 150k with not much history but the engine runs sweet. It's got full colour coded leather interior which is a bonus. Is there anythything I should be on the lookout for? The body is in very good condition also.

Thanks for your time,

Bretty

Hi and welcome.
to be honest it's a old car with 150k alot of things might go wrong hopefuly not though. Are the seats black and same colour as car? could be a rare 16v colour concept.

Yea it's a 16v colour concept. The engine is running sweet as a nut it's been very well looked after. And it's also cheap. I'm taking a mate who I work with to have a look as he's well into his gti's. I'm also a mechanic so I should be able to cope with anything it throws at me.

I hate to say but vw never sold a 16v colour concept...I guess it 's had a trim change which t.b.h is not uncommon

150 colour concept valvers were released in the UK, what money are they asking?

They want 995 quid for it. The thermostat housing gasket is leaking on it but they are doing that this week.

I doubt it is a colour concept, £1k is a lot of money with those miles.

If its a genuine Concept tho then its worth it!!
I've got an 8valve thats done 192,500 and it still starts first time no matter the weather and I know theres a few guys on here that are in the 200,000's an still runnin, if its not a genuine concept tho it is about £300 above price I'd say.

That was the Anniversary 16v.
There was never a 16v CC.
I have both the original CC and Anni brochures sat in front of me from 1996, and you could not buy a 16v CC.

It's either a standard 16v with leather interior option, or it's had an interior change.

Just been on autotrader and there is another that has come up for sale, closer to me, less mileage and less money :)

This one is 2 years younger (1997) and has only done 90k they want £850 for it.

Hi Bretty

Golf Gti mk3 are good solid cars and very reliable. I've been to Europe in mine and had no problems at all. Mine as done 140000 miles ans still going strong. I have just rebuilt the engine and change almost every mechanical part on my golf you could think off and it's like a new car now, getting a re-spray done soon that will bring it back to it's original glory. Look after the Golf and it will look after you buddy.

Is that a 16v? The badge suggests otherwise...which isn't the be all and end all.

Why has it got a CL grille, not a GTI grille?
