hi all
ive just had a new clutch fitted to my 94 8v gti as it was crunching the gears in second & 3rd when changing up,since ive had the new clutch fitted it still does it but only slightly & i can get it to not do it @ all if i change up ever so slowly & gentle, but surely i should be changing up as normal??? :undecided:the car has been back to the garage to get them to look at this & they just adjusted the clutch slightly.i know that when the clutch was changed the mechanic didnt change the clutch cable which im told should be changed whenever the clutch has been changed.could this be the cause or is it more likely to be the syncro??? & will the syncro mean a new box???? :undecided:

Yup, that's your 2nd to 3rd synchro ring gone.
Nothing you can do but replace it...and a gearbox re-build will probably cost you £200-300.
VAG 'boxes are bad for it...you just can't rush the gearchange or you clip the synchro and end up wrecking it.
Sadly, I've managed to wreck my 2nd to 3rd synchro ring on every VAG 'box I've ever had.
It'll not do any harm if you just slow the change down, and make a deliberate forwards, sidwards, forward motion rather than diagonally accross the gate.

Have you tried changing the gearbox oil for a good synthetic oil?

im gonna get it back into the garage aask them to change the clutch cable & try changin the gear box oil for synthetic one.got to try this before a new box.
