I am wanting to have my car sprayed matt black [looked right NICE when we had the frost] what to do it some time next year.
My car is Black already, would they have to do a full spray, or can they just spray over top?
And what kind of price well it be?
-
full respray in excess of 2k for a proper job
-
plus the added extra for either a matting agent or a flat black paint, either way there very hard to paint and you cannot polish any of it
-
ill leve it for now then. but still want it lol
thanks guys

Scotchbrite the whole car, and have it Matt lacquered...

2k  that's pretty expensive.
Depends if you're doing it yourself or not?
I can paint a whole car(well) for about 250 inc paint and consumeables that's if I don't charge for my time.
Scotchbrite is just an abrasive cloth you use to key the paint prior to applying new paint. you would just be missing out the paint stage and putting lacquer on top to seal the panels from the elements.
Just my 2p's worth. But if you are going for a hotrod inspired look does it not somewhat defeat the object paying a garage to paint it for you?

depends if you want it to look good or to look like your a cheap skate with a dish cloth...

have a look at Vinyl wraps if you want a matt look
-
a wrap would be a better option,
its not just a case of scotching the car, you scotch over chips, and marks then just clear coat,
you can paint a car for £100 solid black but thats crap paint, our clearcoat is about £350 +vat a gallon so you get what you pays for lol

Meh, in some instances this is true. The point I am trying to make is that you can do a good job on a budget, and I have. But I have also seen people throw 5k at a paint job and it turn out pishy blotchy orange peely nonsense. All depends on whether you know where to shop for your kit, the skill of the person with paint gun and the amount of prep you put in. Prep is critical.
I've painted my mk2 and others in my mates garage over a weekend, using my ingenuity/ skills I saved a heap of cash and got to ensure that job was done right first time. I've painted fair amount of cars over the years now and know that you don't need to spend an absolute fortune to get a job as good as, or in some instances, even better than factory.
350+ the vat for clear? Bonkers, for anything but a show mk2 and even then you'd need water on the brain or be a lottery winner to pay that sort of cash for clear on a hatch that probs would sell for 10k tops if it were a mag featured show winner.
However I'm with you on the wrap idea, there was a guy on here offering to do intro offer for forum members. I'd have a look if I were you before you go ruining your car/ resale value. Decent gloss black mk2's are getting harder to source these days.

i said thats what it costs, i didnt say we pay that haha
i always tell people to spend as much as they can on clear coat, as that protects the colour, the cheaper clears may shine but lack the uv protection etc,

Fair play, I agree with some instances that the more you pay for materials the beter they are. The point I was making is that you don't always have to pay through the nose to get quality though. It also helps if you know a guy who has been known to "locate certain items from time to time".
