Small bumpers, its an '89.
visually, if its missing side skirts and has fat side trims without a gti badge on them it should be small bumper.
-
My '89 has big bumpers though and thats how it left the factory...

Hazard light switch on the dash = small bumpers, on top of the steering column = big bumpers.
My big bumper car was registered on 2nd Jan 1990, so I think it would be fair to say that some 90 spec cars would have been registered in December 1989.

as above, check the hazard switch. big bumper cars were around in 1989, and small bumper cars were around in 1990!
-
Yeah later 89s had big bumpers, plus a different electrics and a slightly slower ECU (makes the car slower?) or something..

my hazard light is on the dash but has big bumpers, think they arent original tho, its on a G plate but not sure if its '89 or '90

no they arnt, hazard on dash = pre-90 which = small bumpers. some small bumper models were registered late on a G plate tho, as I said :)
