I know that some of the cheaper car shampoos/polishes etc can be harsh on the paint but what about tyre shine? What reasons are there to go for a more expensive tyre shine? Is it just how long the finish lasts or are there other factors?
-
Some will last longer than others.
I use Megs Endurance Tyre gel, applied with the megs foam applicator pad.
The stuff itself is a thick gel, and gives quite a deep glossy shine especially if you give it two coats about 10 mins apart. It a great product which last a long time, even in wet weather!
Also the pad is very useful because it helps you to get an even coverage without getting the product all over your hands or your rims.

I find some of the gels can attract dust. Chemical Guys New Look Trim gel is good. I currently use Mothers Refleciton Tire Care which leaves a nice matt finish.
Put some of the dressing in a small cup and apply it with a paint brush or spray on and wipe with a tyre applicator.

good quality tyre dressings will not only make your tyre look good but it also helps keep the rubber supple and prevent it from cracking etc but dressing them is mainly for looks really.
as said above the megs tyre gel is very good and does last well in the summer(apply it thinnly for best results)
it really isnt worth applying it in the winter though as it will come off quite quickly due to the weather and the salt thats put down on the road will strip it quite quickly tbh.

I have found smart gel to be very good

yeah... I use highstyle for valeting work... its ok but its a bit runny so I apply to tyres etc with a paintbrush and then rub over with a tyre applicator/cloth so that it doesn't 'flick' off over the paint once driven
smart gel seems to work well and last well on trim on the mk3... looks good on tyres - easy to apply. I wouldn't use it on bulk work due to the cost.

u use Chemical guys new look trim gel!
works wonders!
-
what do people use on there tyre,s

autosmart highstyle
megs endurance
these will give a high gloss but can be dulled down by putting less on the tyre.

Chemical Guys New Look Trim Gel is pretty good. Will last a lifetime too with the amount you need to use.
-
Zaino Z16 or Mothers Tire Reflection - both leave a nice natural finish.

Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel for me
Used Megs in the past, not as good
