Title: Ignition off, wotz still running??
Post by: arf4 on 22 February 2010, 15:11

I have a "G" reg GTi Cabrio in very good nick, left with me by my son! Have replaced the battery and something is running as soon as I connect the battery, and with the ignition off - a low humming noise, seems to come from the back of the car - not the motor for the hood - I have disconnected that, can you help me, please.

As above sounds like the fuel pump.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wondered about that possibility but looked at Haynes which showed mechanical pump - BUT- didn't cover the Cabrio.
I need a bit more help, please. Why will it be running continuously with battery connected but ignition off?

A GTI will have a electric fuel pump, for it to keep running then you will have a relay or wiring problem.
Title: Petrol pump Relay
Post by: arf4 on 23 February 2010, 14:27
Can you help me with the location of the petrol pump relay on the cabrio?
I've tried each of the four in the boot and it isn't one of them.
Thanks for the help so far.
