Just been told by the garage that my engine breather gasket is fubarred and that this part is now obsolete?
I'm not too sure what part he means, anyone got any ideas?
-
I'm assuming this is a 16v yes? If so early and late block breather gaskets are both showing as available for me? :undecided:
chassis code cutoff for the early gasket is:
F 1G-MW800 000 or F 1G-MB140 000
-
sorry its 8V
Mechanic has said he's tried everywhere and all say obsolete
-
ok, on 8v the only think i can think of is the breather bung seal on the rocker cover? what year/engine is it
-
89 digi
-
right well if it is the PCV valve bung they're on about, part number is:
028 103 500 - 2.89+VAT.
Its not a gasket though, so not 100% sure they know what they mean? could it be oil filter housing gasket?
-
Mechanic just said that the engine breather gasket was blocked, this was causing a pressure build up which was spitting oil into my airbox.
Apparently the part is obsolete so he had to drill it off, clean the gauze that was full of crud, then weld the gauze back on?
I've no idea what he's on about.
-
Oh the gauze you are refering to is an integral part of the Rocker cover that cannot be removed or replaced unless like you said, he's had to drill it off and weld it back on. This is not a gasket, hence why its apparently obsolete.
If he's done it now then no worries but there are alway rocker covers selling on ebay all the time.
-
ah that makes more sence, and yeah common issue and one way to fix is as described.
-
Thanks Guys, that does explain why I can't see the bloody thing.
He changed the rocker gasket too so all makes sense.
Still smoking a bit though

What type of gasket did he use? Please don't say cork lol!
