Title: Finally sorting the Golf
Post by: rclifton4 on 21 February 2010, 19:19
Well after being let down on a gearbox, i managed to source another box and today have spent a lot of money ordering:

Gearbox
2 Litres G/Box oil
New Clutch
Oil Filter
Oil
Fuel Filter
4x Spark Plugs
Dizzy Cap
Roter Arm
Pollen Filter (which will hopefully help rid of that gearbox oil smell out the vents lol)
Haynes Manual (£2 delivered off ebay lol)

I have found love for my golf again after a little sulk over it all lol

Would you recommend getting new HT leads?

Hi matey

Yeh you might as well go th whole hogging. Ho and if your changing the dizzy might be worth getting the crank shaft sensor too mate £40 GSF. It located behind the dizzy on the engine block you have to remove the front engine mount to get to it. Have fun dude.

get a new clutch release bearing too as the gearbox is out of the car already. Cheap to buy and worth doing to save you time in the future!

Cheers for the heads up guys, the release bearing, is it extra labour involved or is it somthing that has to be removed anyway?

If your going to put a new gear box in mate you might as well do the clutch too at the same time as they can drop the clutch out at the same time whilst the gear box is out nothing of a job.

hi mate yeah your release bearing shouldnt cost you anymore in labour costs as its not a hard job being as you`ll have the gear box out anyway!

hiya mate. HT Leads: i replaced mine with magnecor http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/category_results.mhtml?category=magnecor7mmleads;car=vwgolf3;manufacturer=magnecor;sub_category=1 (http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/category_results.mhtml?category=magnecor7mmleads;car=vwgolf3;manufacturer=magnecor;sub_category=1)

it made a big diffrence it stoped pinking/pinging and the responce was good too!

Clutch release bearing: if its an AGG engine code then the bearing slips in from the pass side of the gear box also id recommend to get a new cover plate (normaly green) this goes on after the bearing it costs about £4-£6 from gsf. its a 5-10min job if the guy knows what his doing, with the box off.

Hope that helps.

Na mr Benjamin i have won a few bob on the horses (you know me lol) and i gonna go for it lol.

I have a guy in norfolk (not the original guy ) who has an 8v box for a decent price and my goodness are they rare to find lol. I rung up 10 differnt "golf breaking" ads and they all said the box sold straight away
