Right so today I was having a snoop around the engine bay just in general and I seen this thing what the hell is it?
It's like what you would screw into a hot water bottle. Here is a pic of it

It was just resting next to a hole which was left open, it must've been like this since atleast last May when the car last went to a mechanic, so maybe it was opened for a reason and then they forgot to put it back in. But somehow the thing has just sat there and not fell out even though the car has been used on the motorway and all sorts.
The hole i'm referring to is on the right of the engine down towards the bottom, so in between the engine and the battery it's down below in that gap.
The hole is on what looks like the gearbox I think lol seriously I aint got a clue about stuff like this so please bare with me.
Here is the best pics I could take of the actual hole that was left open, i've since put the plug back into the hole where I assume it goes and the car doesn't judder on idle now but that could just be coinsidence as the car was already warm.
Here are a few pics of the hole lol

Any help and advice is much appreciated.

Also when you guys get a chance, have a look at yours and see if there is a black plug like this in your car also or have you got a gaping hole like what mine used to be before I put it back in.
Also what the hell is it for and why would someone take it out? To check what?
-
looks like an inspection hole for the flywheel :undecided:
-
Jeez as far as I can remember the clutch and flywheel were done on my car about 10k ago I think or there abouts.
Jeez it could possibly been sitting there since then lol
Or maybe when my brother got it serviced they may have just generally inspected it or something???

Rhyso when you get a chnce when it's light or something have a look if your has the same sort of plug in it, just wanna make sure it goes in there.
The plug has got like screw in thread but the hole doesn't have any thread grooves.
Will check when the car is cold to see if it has cured the slight juddering I had, for now it has.

Spot on I needed that part number Toph.
-
mines been missing since I got the car

So it sounds like a common thing then.
Steve, so judging by the fact that you haven't had one since you had the car, there aren't any diverse effects of not having one on at all?
You don't think it could have a knock on effect on the clutch or flywheel if crap gets in there? Then again the undertray will ensure no crap gets in right?
-
if its not expensive part then you should just replace it imo.

Luckily I still had mine sitting beside the hole for some strange reason
