I will say 288mm discs..... check under the rear seat and see if the abs ecu is stuck there..if not then its 288 (I had 2 1995 models and 1 was 280 and other 288..they changed mid ish 95!)

+1 That sounds right.
1996 should certainly have 288mm discs, it changed in 1995, i think also the side indicators changed at the same time?

I've just changed mine.  It's on a 96 P and i read on here that if you have the silver wire on the outside of the caliper then they're 288... just don't go sticking any BBS RZ's on there without spacers if they're 288

Sorry 2nd one should have said 288mm

The reason i asked as some adverts on Ebay say 1996 280mm, and others also say 1996 288mm, hence why i put my first reg date in case any one new the swap over period.

But thanks for the answer.

as above, but if you are still worried take the wheel off and have a look at your calipers. 288 is the one on the left, 280- is the one on the right:

Thanks for the pictures guys, Suspension kit is being fitted tomorrow so wheels will be off then, i looked under the back seat and there's no ABS boxes there so i guess there 288mm.
A Trip down to GSF when in bits to get the Brembo discs and EBC greens,

Will post some piccys tomorrow if all goes well

Well after all the that there 280mm so i can conclude an 2L 8v GTI registered  02/02/96 were 280mm, well on my car anyhow, and i had no Abs ecu under the rear seat either.

its prob down to liek when the MK2 CE2 came out in roughly 1990, there were some early cars that wernt bought quickly and so were registered late, and some later cars that were snapped up real quick and snapped up early!

so its possible this one was made in late 95/early and was sat for a while before being purchased.  this is why models right on the changeover year need to be checked over carefully :)

Hmmm, i have a nice set of BBS wheels that would fit on your car rather nicely ;)
