Title: Accelerator pedal
Post by: Primus84 on 19 February 2010, 13:13
Just curious, why is the accelerator pedal totally different to the clutch and brake pedal? What's the point of the big paddle style pedal?

A few reasons:

1. Looks/style.
2. Make it easier to heel & toe.
3. The arc in which a floor-hinged pedal moves is more similar to the way in which your foot flexes, compared to a 'normal' pedal which is hinged from above.

If you look as the pedal boxes in racing cars, all three pedals are floor-hinged.

Just wondered why they don't do all the pedals the same.

It's a shame that, having a pedal that makes it easier to heel & toe when the modern VW systems won't allow heel & toe.
