I know the drag race was a bit pointless but the sideways fun looked good, but 30k is a bit steep.

The golf R does look nice but 30k is well steep and ill even be slightly controversial and say i think given the choice id rather have the scirroco R.

Thats ok, in a more contraversial move i'd rather take the focus RS.
-
I'd go for the Focus RS, but I'm from Essex so Ford Motorsport is a massive part of Essex life and ways. I was a Ford man (am still am in a way) before I got into VW as much as I am into them now.
A Golf is better built than a Focus though, always have been. They've been making Golfs for over 20 years so got to be doing something right I guess...
-
Focus RS would be my choice, however they are aimed at different markets really.
-
Focus RS for me
-
RS for me the R is nice but way over priced
-
Focus RS for me
you all seem to take the focus  guys whats going on i thought this was a dub forum  im die hard dub man and would take the golf over any car just to prove my loyalty to the brand

Price is the biggist issue, Golf R is way too expensive against the Focus.

yeah i must agree on that ,seeing as its more expensive than an audi s3 , and the s3 really is supposed to be a superior car in my opinion
-
i'd go for the 'R' brand loyalty etc well made as its a vw :lipsrsealed: a tad overpriced compared to the focus but its a ford i suppose for anyone thats okay spending 30k on their car then that wont be a problem to them
-
R20 if I had to choose, but deep down I'd get a LCR as its similar and much cheaper, or a S3. Reason "oh look its a essex benifit fraudster in a RS which is a chaved up ST" (no offence mike). Plus I'd say the golf is more classy, while the RS is for pulling 15year olds that don't know anything better with a trip to HMP Belmarsh.
-
Id have the golf gti, even that is expensive though.
-
I would be tempted by the golf R if i had not ordered a GTI but i think the S3 with its far superior standard equipment and large 10%+ discounts would tempt me away from much higher priced golf R. The S3 also a prooven product with any design and build flaws ironed out now, it maybe older and near replacment but that can be a plus as i just pointed out. The SEAT leon R or cupra are just too rounded a look for my liking and the visability out of them is too compromised. The RS is just to essex boy for me.
-
focus RS all the way
the clubsport Focus RS is even more brutal
and the new version is supoopsed to be even better still, however thats a few years away yet
-
focus RS for me
fully kitted out focus RS is only a tad more than a standard golf R
-
Not been out in either yet but I reckon it'd be quite a tough choice. The Focus looks like a chavs wet dream from factory  but is cheaper and I suspect more mental.
Golf is very expensive but looks better (imo) and has the four wheel drive.
Don't see why you'd bother with the rocco R which doesn't have four wheel drive. It does look the dangleys though!

Not sure on that, Focus is around £27k Golf R is over £30k.

If I had enough cash to buy either without a struggle it'd be the R all day long. Faster, better built, better handling, better residuals so worth the extra money. If I was maxing my budget on either and it would be a financial stretch I'd get a Golf GTI and a ramp
Edit: If the Focus was AWD I'd probably get that over a mapped GTI though.

Id probably wait for the Audi RS3, although it is definitely going to be more expensive than both of them.

+1 when its out, its would be in my "win the lottery dream garage"
anyway, Golf R anyday! focus RS looks like a pile of sh!t. like nick said, its worth the extra dollar and its 4WD! Oh and its a VW Golf!

cant see a golf R been worth more that a focus RS in years to come
the all new focus RS will have selectable 4x4

Browsed TopGear magazine in the newsagents today and some comments that stood out were (as best I can remember):
"If you want instant thrill pick the RS, if you want ultimate handling pick the Megane, if you want a car that does both these almost as well but can be daily kids/stuff transporter the Golf R is one to get."
"Think of it as a Golf GTI-R, like a GTI but better."
"It should not be considered a replacement for the R32. It's far too good to be that."
The reviewer finished up the article by looking at the finance options becuase he was dead set on buying one.

such a shame they look so crap, both inside and out.. i cant see it selling so well
-
It's not meant to sell well though, that's why it's effing expensive! Only 500 this year are being allocated for the UK.
It seems to be an excellent car but I can see why people think it's a bit dull looking. If this car had come about in the Golf V cycle it would have been epic but the MKVI doesn't really carry off the agressive look this car needs.
Nick
-
be hard to sell 500 i bet!
-
i would only buy the ford if i had the money to buy both, and a ferrari!
-
I dont know why people worry about the price difference so much.
If you have 27k to spend on a car i'm sure you could find 30k. Its just about what you like more. Personally i'd go for the golf.
-
i had a sit and pushed all the buttons (as you do) and generally looked and played with it for like 10mins at the dealership. it was the blue one but it was a more door. they really dont look like an "R" model though :(
...... i'd still take it anyday over all its competitors
