Hi
I have been trying to trace a water leak in the drivers foot well for the last few weeks. If i poor water directly down the water drain in the wing water slowly seeps into the footwell. There is no evidence of water gettin in from behind the dash. Has anyone had this problem before and do you think it is possible for water to get in this way.

Its either a grommet, or the passage where the wipers and ecu are is full of crap, try cleaning it out. It could be the door also, check the plastic, behind the panel.

cheers i thought it was the door membrane and replaced it. The channel that runs to the drain is also clear. Im going to take the arch liner of at the weekend and hope ther is a missing gromit or a small rust hole.

check the rain tray for cracks.
water may be dripping in through the heater blower. Check the leaf guard (under the rain tray) and see if its sealed properly.

Thanks, I replaced the rain tray yesterday and it still leeks. The leek is only on the drivers side. Do you think it is possible for the water to get from the heater blower to the drivers foot well.

I recently had this problem, it was comming in via the bonnet release cable/grommet on mine.

Checked that it's not gettin in through there either.

If it only leaks when you pour water in the drain hole without getting anything else wet then I guess the problem is behind the wing. I think I read that it's possible to have rusty inner wings which would then let water into the car. :sad:
I doubt it would be a leak from the heater blower mesh travelling all the way to the driverside. But you could easily test this by parking it half on the kerb with the driverside higher than the passenger side. If it still leaks, it can't be the blower.

check the drain holes are clear, and remove the metal ecu cage. under this tyou'll see a square bit of metal thats boned down, this is covering the hole wherre fresh air blower inlet is on a LHD car, check this over carefully to make sure its not leaky.
another thing you can do, remove driver side dash undertray and lie in the footwell looking up, while a mate shines a high power torch around that area. any holes should become obvious!

This is a pretty common one that a lot of people dont check, would be my first port of call since you've checked the rest.

Unfortunately I have experienced this...to check if its this remove the arch liner and have a feel up at the top of the wing for any holes...common place for mk2 to rust. If you do feel any holes remove the wing and weld up the box section.

Thanks for all your help. I removed the arch liner, directly under the drain in the wing is a fixing for the arch liner. I filled it with puttey and it seems to have stopped, gonna check again tomorrow before i put the carpets back. Just a bit concerned the water could of starterd to rot the wheel arch seem from the inside out where it was tracking down.
