Not sure what to use on my new GTD that I will be picking up on the 1/03/10 Cnady white, I have clay bar's also colinite, so I know this process!! But not sure weather to go for a permant glaze? Advice would be good from you detailng men? Also whats the best glaze to use? Thanks Steve
-
glaze won't provide any protection... it just enhances shine.. if you want protection as per your title then you should opt for using something like Jetseal 109 prior to your wax treatment
-
With a brand new car there is probably no need to use the clay bar just yet, unless it's been stood at the port for months and months which is unlikely.
In terms of sealing your paintwork, the only product I have ever used is Jetseal 109 and it is fantastic. Ideally you need to give it a couple of coats, and if you can, leave one coat to cure overnight in a garage. There are other products around though.
In terms of a wax on top of that, the Colli that you already have should be OK, or you could splash out on some Dodo juice or similar. Give it a couple of coats to layer it up.
If it was me i'd also be taking the wheels off the car while they are new/clean and sealing them up with the Jetseal, then topping off with a 2 or 3 layers of Poorboys wheel sealant or you could use the collinite.
Be aware that some of the dealers have some right cowboys in there doing the PDI wash and de-wax on new cars. This is more of a problem around the time you'll be collecting the car because there are lots of people wanting their new car on the first day of the plate change so the dealers sometimes get contractors in who won't give your paintwork much love.

guy and jaydub have covered some good points there :wink:as guy said glaze will boost your shine but it also helps the sealant to bond to the surface, jetseal is good stuff but also consider finishkare 1000p hi temp sealant which is awesome stuff or if you really want to push the boat out get yourself some Zaino clearseal .
adding to what jay said you will proberly receive the car with plenty of swirls added by the inexperienced valet monkeys so be prepared to either sort it yourself or get a pro to buff them out then you do the protection work yourself seeing as you've got most of the bits already
also as said above get the wheels off the car and give them a good clean and then seal them up and wax them with colly, will be well worth it in the long run

Hi Dan , not a chance in hell , I have warned them that any marks on the car and it will be knocked back? I have speacifcaly asked them to stay away from the paint work!! Reason is I have seen them useing a Brush to get the snow off brand new cars!! I said to the guy at the time what the hell are youing to those car's ? are you insane doing that!! The guy just froze with fear , I did tell the management about this!! They know that I am a very fussy when it comes to paintwork . Thanks for your support guys, Steve ps I have just orderd the sealent 109.

Hi Dan , my dad has just given me some supagaurd impregnated sponges, once ive dont the sealent will be okay to put this stuff on or just leave it out? Thanks Steve
-
Good on you for telling them to leave the paint alone
Its worth claying, just to make sure that the paint Is clean as a whistle. As for products I've always been impressed with the Jeff werstatt acrylic product on light coloured cars. Its also easy to apply & not much drama In hot/cool temperatures.
-
steve, that jetseal is fantastic on alloys too. Give it a couple of coats, and when you need to clean them again its just a matter of a quick wipe.

use them to save them going to waste but dont use them to apply other sealants with as the different chemicals could react against each other. got any pics of said sponges?

Steve, i told my dealer 3 times not to wash my car and emailed him twice also and when i collected it they had washed it. I went nuts
The fleet manager told me they had only gave it a light wash to remove the transport wax etc
And this was a replacement car because i rejected the first due to damaged paintwork. They never learn!

[/quote] Yes i agree with you totaly, I just pick mine up on monday the 1st March, they didn't clean mine, but it did have that wax on the windows it was difficult to get off!! I managed to get it with viniger , I then spent 4 hours detailn the car with washing then selant 109 , colinite wax. I gave the car a jet rinse yesterday and the dirt just flew off brilliant no need for shampoo, then just Mcgures detaing spray after just bring out the bling!!

Steve, hope you don't mind me butting into your thread?
My questions seem to continue on and be the same as yours except mines on a dark blue metallic car. :undecided:
As im a huge novice to detailing i would like some advice for a
brand new mk6 dark blue shadow blue metallic GTI that im picking up next week or the week after.
I will have 250miles of motorway grime on it before i get home. So i guess snow foam, 2 bucket method, microfiber towel drying, then polish, seal, wax as shown in the FAQ section. :undecided:
Due to the different colour will the product choices you guys reccomend be different to what you recomended to Steve?
Can someone list everything i really need to do detailing on a brand new dark metallic properly?
I want to start on the right path with this car,
I have good practical skills so can turn my hand to just about anything if i have a clue what im doing that is.
Help!

Snoopy it not a problem mate, looking at your method it seems like your going to do a better job than me my friend!! I always use colinite its amazing stuff and last for months , by the way dont forget 109 selent its very good.
I guess it depends on the weather when you pick your car up Snoopy, If i was in your shoes I would ask them to leave the car's paintwork alone do not touch it or clean it and leave factory wax on it and do it at your own home when you get in?? I do not let dealerships any where near the paint work , much prefer to do the job myself also i really enjoy detailing car's. It hard graft though beleaf me !! Enjoy Steve
