Title: Milltek Exhaust?
Post by: Pringle on 17 February 2010, 22:56
Hey guys,

Im looking to put a tasteful twin tip on my Mk2. Because its just for cosmetic reasons and for a slightly nicer sound I was thinking of going for just a Milltek back box. As Im not changing the rest of the exhaust system would it still be worth forking out and getting a Milltek rather than a cheaper brand? (I want to avoid it being too loud) Also, does anyone have a round idea how much just a back box is likely to cost? I cant find anywhere quoting prices for them at all.

Cheers, Mike

They're no longer in production for the mk2, which is a shame

I started a thread here about a year ago about Milltek exhausts for our Mk2s

I had been talking to Milltek about make a one off batch of systems if there was sufficient interest in them. How many people showed a glimmer of interest? Six

i had to swop from the milltek 8v 2.25" system to a jetex 2".  and guess what, bum on seat, it felt more responsive.
the milltek was embarrassing loud.  i mean stupid.  however asthetically, it was beautiful.  very well made.  fit perfectly.
im so much more happier with the jetex. alot quieter, apart when at wot.then its just purposeful.
the fit is only as good as the garage who put it on.  i used midland vw. and i have no banging/knocking.  fitt and forget

Hmm, Jattex sounds quite tempting then. Anyone got any ideas how much a stainless backbox would be? And maybe where a decent stockist can be found in Suffolk?

I didn't get on with it in terms of fitment and noise. I ahd the three silencer version on my 8v and it was far too loud for my liking, and the backbox just wouldn't sit properly no matter what i tried. This was a couple of years ago though. I think it was DPB that had issues with his more recently

Here's a pic of my Jetex 2.5" system on a 1.8t.  It sounds good.  Very good fit also, came with new rubbers, and really tough u-bolts.

I have also used Magnex in the past on my 8v, got a 4*6" oval, sounded lovely and not that noisy, was a good fit too, would recommend Magnex.

Dont know what to say obout the Jetex system yet till I get it out on the road.

jetex supply 2 special brackets that replace the cars original brackets. so the fit is perfect. without these, it wont fit right.
theres the backbox one which makes it sit properly, then the mid box bracket, which had a piece of rubber that once the exhaust is fitted, presses against the chassis so its as high off the beam as possible, without knocking on the underside of the car. genius!

i had problems with the rear silencer knocking on a h+r roll bar. easily fixed. and i dont find this an issue as the bar is an aftermarket item.

if you go for the 2.5" system, it will be loud. but my 3 box 2" system is perfect. maybe a little too restraint

ps im now running a 16v 2.0 abf and it flows perfectly. on a dyno_dynamics machine it pulled stock hp, 150hp, and +10lbft. im putting this down to the exhaust. if i went 2.5" i doubt id of seen the t increase

The one i had was a pain in the arse, took alot of tweaking to fit right and never did fit 'perfect'. It did sound good though, not too loud.
