What do you guys use to keep the black plastic trim from fading on your mk3?
I'v used some Simoniz product for plastic bumpers, but i'm not overly impressed with the result. Any suggestions or secrets?

Shoe polish, the bottle with the sponge on top. Made by Kiwi. Go round the car twice, leave 30 mins then buff. Lasts months without reapplying. Just rebuff with every wash.
-
Don't do the rear spoiler with it though [if you have one].
Different kind of plastic and will look absolutely cack.

Boiled linseed Oil. Tried everything over the years and this stuff is the best and cheapest.

what horney says, it stinks during application but so far its doing the job
-
Are all these good for the spoiler to then?
-
The linseed is, used to do mine with it
Lasts for ages. Even after loads of washing
You can pick it up from your nearest Focus, B&Q etc. and costs around £4

bit of a cheapskate one this, but free! old used engine oil when theyv'e gone really grey to get colour back, then i use any cheap bumper product to keep it that way.

+1 excellent stuff.
-1 awful stuff and too costly for what you get

I can recommend WD40 or GT85!! spray on lightly and rub on with jay cloth!! doesnt last forever but does a good job and really cheap

Used it on mine - looks terrible

+1 on the boiled linseed oil. Lasts a good couple of months, works on the rear spoiler too and stupidly cheap considering the tiny amount you need to use

i found boilded linseed oil to work well

This is the stuff I use...found it to be very very good. It has the consistency of black paint, but won't do any damage if you get a little on the paintwork...so long as you wipe it off within a few minutes. It is important that you apply 2-3 coats on very faded trim however! I've found it to last at least a month. One bit of advice though, wear gloves when you apply it...as it takes ages to get it off your hands! Bought it from Halfords...

Well decided i'll go get some boiled linseed oil from B&Q today, washed car...... applied the linseed oil to a clean cloth and rubbed it into the plastic bumpers/arches/spoilers.... The results are outstanding!!!. Really wish my camera hadnt broke, otherwise i would have taken pics to prove it
Cheers peeps for the tip :afro:

"Copied my thread from same spoiler question"
I have tried loads of different things used to be Manager of Motaman in Bristol, so tried everything, Mer, Autoglym etc etc
But i used this the other day and its kicks the rest into touch :
http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+G10810
Comes out like a gel, as soon as i put it on my grey looking spoiler it stained it, soaked right in, done the whole car gave it a good long rub, buffed it off washed the car still looked great, best of all no streaks after the wash like Autoglym leaves.
I rate it 9/10 for application, 10/10 for non streaking, will have to wait to see how long it lasts though....
