Title: Cleaned the Beauty (pic Heavy)
Post by: FOREST GREEN on 16 February 2010, 18:46
Well chaps, finally got round to doing my 1st ever proper detailing clean today, took me a while, and I'm still not in the league of 99% of you guys here, but please let me know what you think, did I do anything wrong, miss anything out etc...
The pics don't do her justice to be honest, but I was really very pleased with the end result..

1st I washed it in Meguires soft gel soap using a micro fibre wash mit Shammied the whole car dry Then clay barred all the green paint with Meguires Clay & Detailing set Then repeated the wash Shammied the whole car dry (again) Then put 2 coats of Meguires High Resin Polish on using a buffer Then put 2 coats of Meguires NXT 2.0 Deep Finish hard Wax on Then sprayed the wheels with Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, waited 5 mins then agitated with a soft brush, sprayer more Bilberry Cleaner on, waited 8 mins, then hosed off.
Used Meguires High Gloss Tyre trim on all the exterior Black Plastic Trim Micro Fibered the wheels clean, and applied to coats of Meguires NXT 2.0 Deep Finish hard Wax to them.
Used Meguires High Gloss Tyre trim on all the tyres twice.
Fitted new MK 111 badge
Fitted new 8V badge
Fitted new Shark Fin Antenna
Fitted new Kaemi badge
Cleaned/Polished/Hovered the Interior and fitted the GTI badge by the gear stick

10 hours!   you must be nacked!

nice job

i would have done the wheels at the beginning... you don't want crud from the wheel wash process to be going onto your nice clean paint! this is especially true when using a pressure washer

did you use a buffing machine?  i thought i saw one to the side of one of your photos?

Took the wheels off to do them mate, and I sheepishly say yes to the "buffer", its a Black Spur electric single speed car polisher, I applied everything using the Megs pads, and buffed up by hand using Micro Fibre cloths, then I used a Pure Lambs Wool Pad on my "Buffer" and went over the whole car, suprisingly, it brought out a really deep shine.

Thanks for your coments, means alot!!

I would remove the badge from the airbag

The badge on the airbag is ok, the airbag has been professionally turned off due to a front facing car seat in there sometimes, but I see what you mean.

Nice work m8, and a top colour.
Small recomendation to swap the chammy for a drying towel (cobra guzzler or something similar), work better & better for your paint

Nice job sir, looking very nice indeed!

I have to agree with the above, try a quality drying towel and you won't believe the difference.

On the ebay listing it says 15cm of wire, So it must plug into the original coax somehow?

Yeah, when I went to connect, I had a male coax end on the Fin and the Cable in the roof, so I just cut 1 off and replaced with a female, works a treat, and miles better reception. Got the idea from IRON TAM, have a butchers at his excellent 'HOW TO' thread here
