Hi was driving to work this morning and lost all power doesnt matter what gear i change into the turbo doesnt kick in. Any ideas guys? Had a search but nothing seems to come up that matches the issues i am having. seems to be topping out at 50mph and thats struggling
-
do you have thick black smoke coming from the exhaust?
-
nope. it weird after stopping checking the car over then starting it back up it is working fine for the moment. Duno if this gives anymore ideas?

If you're struggling to get up to speed it could be that your MAF is goosed. Try unplugging it and see if it runs better
Look at the airbox and follow the big pipe back towards the engine - you'll see the plug approx 6 inches from the airbox
-
Ya so if i disconnect that and then go for a drive it should be ok correct? Could anything else cause the issue as no lights or fault codes seem to have been logged. well nothing is set on the dash anyways.
-
if it runs better with the MAF disconnected then you need a new MAF; if no change then its something else
Re-reading your original post it sounds like you've hit limp mode - this cuts the turbo out and it feels like a 1.0 Nova!
Although no lights on the dash you need to get it to someone with VAGCOM or diagnostic scanner who can read the codes for you :afro:
Whereabouts are you?
-
you beat me to it Rhyso, I'd just typed up the same response.
-
yep thats it. I am junc 18 m6. Whats this limp mode thing caused by? just hope it not guna b a dear repair job :-(
-
could be as a result of a number of things...possibly as easy as a boost leak.
-
Mmmm Just seems weird that after i turned the car off then turned it back on again it ran fine and pulled through the gears no problem. How much am i looking at for a scanner? or to get it done by someone,
-
As A7 UFO has said it could be a number of things
Limp mode =
Faulty N75
Boost leak
Sticking turbo vanes
I've also experienced when a pipe from the exhaust manifold to the EGR broke off and vented gases
Have a poke around your engine bay and the sides of the intercooler at the front to see if you can see anything obvious like a loose / disconnected pipe
There are a couple of people in and around your area i believe who have VAG COM - might be worth getting in contact with them to see if they will help you out for a few beer tokens
-
Any good people to go to? What a N75? Also is sticking turbo vanes time for a new turbo ? sorry so many question i am new to diesels.
-
where are you based?
-
Cheshire, Junc 18 M6

it control the position of the turbo vanes via the actuator
not necessarily - you can get a turbo cleaning kit which could help eliminate the problem

Neil (old_No7) lives down the road from you too
Or you could trundle up to Awesome GTI for them to have a look at it - they are in Manchester
Or there is PSI Tuning in Stoke-on-Trent

What a stupid question, it's a diesel
-
you've most defiantly gone into limp mode. mine used to do when driving down the motorway at 65-70 then the slightest touch of the throttle the turbo would cut out.
used some turbo cleaner and touch wood it hasnt done it since :lipsrsealed:
-
how easy is it and how much is it to do the turbo cleaning kit? price etc
-
Just used a VAG COM on the car came back with 17965. What is this? e.g. what is it relating to and how do i resolve the issue. e.g. whats parts are effected?

not available or publicised well. You can tap a manual boost controller into the line.
-
just called the dealers the valve is 45 quid inc VAT. Now just need to get the oil seal which goes on the extension pipe which screws into the engine.

Ouch!! That's gone up by £15 since last year
-
gotta remember VAT is now 17.5% and not 15% like it was last year. Any ideas on the oil seal part number?

2.5% on a £30 part though is an extra £3.75 not £15!
not sure which pipe you are on about??
-
On the engine the plastic cover that is on the top which has the TDI logo. Where the cap for the oil filler is. It is an extension pipe to the engine, with a rubber seal on the end. Thats the part i am after.
