How do you adjust the height of door?
Are the hinges adjustable?
-
no they are not, likely they're worn. you can try adding a washer to the lower hinge, or do the old put a wheel bolt in the hinge and shut the door to bend them slightly. or replace the hinge pin and door half, still avail from VAG. can get em from ebay off the seller 'chubnut'

no play in door .....i'll try the washer route
-
or a jack under the door! very gently, not the best way but does work!
-
Yea I used a trolley jack but put a bit of wood on top of the jack betewen it and the door

Always set your door gap with the striker pin removed! tweak your door to where you want it, and checking by holding the door shut, when happy, replace the pin, with the lever on the door handle pulled back, adjust the striker pin so that when the lock mechanism passes over the pin, there should be no resistance, then tighten the pin, make all adjustments with the the tailgate open! and NOT the windows wound down...

make all adjustments with the the tailgate open!
...? What difference does that make? Not something I would have naturally thought to do!
-
I was trying to work that out earlier.

Very simple.... Golfs are very airtight, if you wind the door window down on your Golf, see just how easy the door shuts!
When adjusting the doors, you need the window to be in the up position, as this is the position of the glass 99% of the time, it also very slightly alters the shape of the door, therefore, adjust with the window up, opening the tailgate, or the other door for that matter, will sort out the air pressure issue, and yes my doors fit, and shut perfectly

adjusted mine last night
Drivers door lifted through brute force (GRRRR!!!) and adjusted the door pin to give a snug fit
Passenger door just needed pin moving in board to stop water running around door and onto carpet when washing / raining

The wheel bolt trick works very well, can't remember where I saw it now. Did mine 2 years ago and it's still OK.
You basically hold then jam a wheel bolt on each hinge on the inside and shut the door agaisnt the bolt, jamming the bolt in the hinge. Give the door a bit of a shove then take the bolt out and see what effect you had.
Can't remember the order - I think it's bolt in bottom door goes up, bolt in top hinge door goes down..... don't hold me to this!
I wrapped some insulation tape round the spare wheel bolt to stop it scratching the paint in the hinge.
