Title: mk2 problem

Hi ,I bought a mk2 last week 8v 199k its brillant to drive lots of fun, except when I put it into reverse and clutch it ,the car then seems like it is gonna  cut out,the revs drop , but then I clutch it again and the revs go back up any help would be brillant thanls

Do you mean that when you depress the clutch the revs drop like it's going to stall? Does this only happen when going into reverse?
Try and explain your problem as clearly as possible and you *might* get a useful answer...

sorry that msg was a bit confusing. When I clutch the car the revs drop and at low speeds it feels like the car is going to cut out. but the car idles ok .sorry about the confusion , any help would be great thanks

When you say "clutch the car", do you mean you press the clutch pedal in and it wants to stall when in gear?

So as soon as you put it gear and keep the clutch pressed in, the car wants to stall?

when i clutch the car to change gear the revs drop (i.e) 2000rpm i clutch to change gear the revs drop to below 1000rpm, if I am at 3500rpm and clutch to change gear the revs drop to below 2000rpm.I hope this is making sence thanks

Are you sure it's not just your driving style?

Seems really odd that you drop the cluch and the revs drop...

This might sound sarcastic and stupid, but it isnt..

Are you used to driving an auto or something?

When I change gear in my golf the revs drop to idle or not far off idle, especially if I am being gentle with my gear changes and easing them into place

if its a 88on 8v GTI, check the idle switch clicks just as the throttle shuts, and check the wiring to the back of the throttle body hasnt snapped. if the switch doesn't click, check the throttle shuts firmly to the stop, if it does you'll need to adjust the position of the idle switch a tad.  the switch is right underneath the tb, so you have to remove the rubber boot and use an angle screwdriver to get to the screws.  Good opportunitly to clean the throttle body and check all your vacuum hoses while the boot is off

dont ur revs usually drop when you engange the clutch anyways? or am i bein stupid? also, i still sometimes think mine sounds like its about to stall, but never actually does.   possibly a warming up problme + a maunal choke?   my 89 has a manual choke =)

the digi should catch the revs at 900ish without an issue, if it drops lower than that and stalls at times, then usually the issue is the idle switch, wiring or perhaps the isv.

i know this becasue mine went thru a phase of snapping the tb wires once a month, in the end i added an extra inch to the wiring and that sorted it
