Despite the fact that I said I'd never do it :lipsrsealed: I'm thinking of selling a couple of my sets of 18'' alloys and funding a set of 19s and LED rear lights.
So who's already put 19s on their GTI/GTD and how does it look?
(yes, I need pictures for inspiration)
-
I have some sat in my garage... waiting for summer
-
Get them on now - with the luck you've had the car might not last until summer

Thanks Snoops, the Audi splits are my favourite from that little lot  Really like the Oettingers too.
And yeah I remember some of those threads, was hoping a few more on here would have taken the plunge by now too.

Exo, what you sellin'? I might be interested!

Some photos of BBS CH 19s

The all black monzas look weird and the BBS ones look kinds small. I do think my "factory" Monza 18s look enormous.... can't even contemplate anything larger without looking comical!
-
Spanner in the works and all that.
The 19"s must be very uncomfortable.
Yes , most people say they look better....

The 19"s must be very uncomfortable.
I test drove a Golf R last week on 19's with 25mm lower suspension than the GTI and no ACC - and found it to ride as well as my ED30 did. The roads now are absolutely dreadful with pot holes everywhere, and to be honest I expected the 19's to offer a rough ride - but I was very very impressed at how soft it made the bumps feel. I've specced ACC on mine, but if I hadn't, I wouldn't be at all be dissappointed.

Thanks for the link. I really like those. Not sure about having to clean them though!! Must be a full time job!!Some photos of BBS CH 19s

Thanks snoops, mags' car looks great but I've done the BBS thing now I reckon, mind you some black CHs would really float my boat. Having said that if I got a set of those and sold my 18'' BBS my wife wouldn't notice and I'd get away with it

The BBSs do look a bit small from certain angles, but they fill the arches really well as they have a good width and offset. They looked perfect on my mk5 but less so on the mk6. They would probably look better on a NON GTI/GTD with the smaller bumpers.
As for the Detroits, well you either like them or you don't. Personally I love them, especially on grey and red cars. They're OEM yet a bit different, plus they're rare in the UK. They get a lot of attention considering I don't use the car much

Comfort I'm not so worried about. I've got an old banger with uprated (hard) suspension as my daily driver so the Golf will be an improvement on that even on 19s!!

I have the bbs splits sat in my garage with virtually new eagle f1 assyms on... they actually improve the ride imo. Alot less crashy over bumps!

There has been no difference in the ride quality going from 18's to 19's for me.

As above no difference in ride for me either,
Only slight problem when on full lock 235 profile tyre rubs very slightly but i can live with that, no probs with 225s

235 will be the width Neil not the profile although i'm sure you meant that!

Yes only get them from Vwr, i paid 1k +vat for them then you you gotta get tyres aswell so not cheap,
I think they suit the car better than the Monzas thou,
Took them off for now and running winter tyres on R32 rims, they will be getting painted same colour as the vwr's when i put the others back on, don't look great but grip is a lot better with Vredys on in this weather
Quick pic off phone

Neil, your VWR alloys are lovely, I don't normally like aftermarket wheels but your Mk6 is nicest I've seen. Shame VW weren't a bit more inventive with the factory wheels on the mk6..
-
Neil, are your alloys the same as the ones snoopy posted in his 3rd reply in this thread, from the white car, 1st pic ?

Are the 18' BBS genuine?
How much are you looking for them?
-
Yep they're genuine BBS VZ 033s, 8x18 ET44. Two Conti 3s with a couple of thousand miles wear and two Conti 2s that are quite worn. Absolutely no kerbing what so ever but one wheel has a couple of small stonechips that I've touched in.
Price? Not got a clue at the moment, I'm just at the deciding stage as to whether I want to part with them (took me ages to get a set). There's a guy who lives round the corner from me who's got an Audi A3 is interested in them, but I'm open to offers.
A good thing about those particular wheels is that they were a special edition for the mk5 Golf that had the wheel bolt holes wide enough to fit the black nut covers in OEM style. Plus they're slightly wider and have a lower offset than Pescaras so they sit perfectly in the arches.
Why did I sell my mk5?
Here's how they looked on my mk5

Sorry, forgot about this thread.
I bet the tyres that come with the CHs in the above link are cheap sh!te.
Mine'd be much much cheaper but with two tyres that need changing soon.
Not so sure I want to change wheels now as I've just spent the last few days actually using the Golf a bit and have fallen for the 'charms' of the Detroits again. Gonna get some spacers for the back I think to give it a bit more aggressive stance similar to the BBSs.

It tells you which tyre's it comes with (Federal)
You can buy them for around £60 online excluding fitting, not a tyre i would go for.
