Title: working out when your GTI was built
Post by: adw555 on 11 February 2010, 00:09
Is there an easy way to work out which month a GTI was built?. I heard the tag on the seat belt is an indication, but how accurate is that..is it not just when the belt was made?

^ yes if you take panels off they will all have different dates  as will the engine parts.

The only way is to contact VW and use the serial number. The VIN gives a ruff guide. The model year is the 10th digit, factory of origin is the 11th digit

Seat belt markings, or the underside of the ashtray used to be the other item - i'd be surprised if mouldings and trim sat around for more than a couple of months.

Tyres alsohave a 4 digit number on the side wall for weekyear of manufacture, so 4409 would be week 44 2009
