just checked my oil , pulled at the dipstick and the plastic holder on top of the metal tube snapped in half and came away with the dipstick(leaving the other half on the metal tube), if that makes sense.
Anyone know if the plastic holder is available as a seperate part and how to get the old bit off ?

Plastic tube is separarate, VW may ask the colour (different lengths), yours is prob. red. Hope this helps, Steve.

I had te same prob, remove the lot and take it to VW, think it cost me about ?3.

Yep I had the same problem too. I think the plastic gets brittle over time due to the heat from the engine. They just pull off but be careful as I noticed it left a piece of plastic in the tube that I carefully had to tease out.

I had this problem on my 16V, I bought a few from the last GTI International, handy to have spares as the seem to go brittle quite quickly.

I just reinforced mine with some hose pipe around the fragile orange plastic and strapped with two thick cable ties.

I superglued mine back together and it's not broken again........yet!
