Got a pretty mouldy interior on the go and just wondered if anyone has any experience of cleaning it up with a certain product or appliance.
Gonna spend tomorrow stripping it out, trying to clean the seats, seatbelts and carpets etc and gonna try and find out where all the leaks are etc.
Are the seats as easy to get out as the mk3's?
Going to pikey fix the heating issues with copper pipe n'all to try and get it nice and toasty inside to dry everything out a bit
Any info would be cool
Cheers

Are you getting water in the footwell etc... i have a valver in the garage atm and thats going mouldy.. i dont think its down to a leak in the car.. i simply think its just from sitting in damp conditions..
As for the seats coming out, on the front of the seat is a little allen head bolt and a 10mm(i think) nut.. knock them off, take the plastic rail covers off, sit in the seat and slide it back....really easy to do i think...
What heating issue do you have??

When you find a good product let me know, I'll be taking shares in said company

it is fairly straightforward but hard work...
first find and stop the leaks... make the car watertight as you don't want to do this job twice
cleaning a grotty interior is entirely possible... you just need time, elbow grease and preferably a warm dry sunny day or two - i will be doing this again come spring by the looks of the cabby
==============
seats: once you have got them out they will be easy to clean...
you need a George vacuum cleaner (or a wet vac and a spray bottle) and some Autosmart (AS) G101 and some AS Biobrisk
spray the seats down with a mixture of the biobrisk 4:1 (iirc) and G101 10:1 combined and then work it using a stiff brush (i use a vikan nail brush) - then extract the mixture using the vac
you can see the results achieved with this method here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=89507.msg1186179#msg1186179 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=89507.msg1186179#msg1186179)
carpet: if you can remove from the car it will be MUCH easier....
again.. just about the same procedure as the seats... except I used a pressure washer with a 'blade' nozzle to wash the carpet down section by section once I had sprayed on the G101/Biobrisk and worked it with a brush - I then hung the carpet out to dry once I worked on my interior... you could do this in an airing cupboard/garage/hallway

as for the dash/remainder of the interior: I use a AS G101 mix at 10:1 and then spray this on using a spray bottle and wipe off using a microfibre. for crevices I use a vacuum and a paintbrush for working into those tight spaces.

Yeah water is getting in cus the guy that resprayed it recently butchered a few of the seals and both the rubber roof gutter/seal things. My Dad took it upon himself to load the car full of old beer cans and just leave them there which I think is what caused most of the mould. The heating just doesnt work either, it used to until I had a new radiator last year so I think it might be the thermostat or the heater matrix bypass valve. So gonna remove the bypass valve and see if that gives me any joy until I can go and get a thermostat from the stealers.

Cheers Guy, do places like Halfrauds sell this stuff? Or is it too specialised for places like that?
Was hoping there was some household stuff I could use like carpet cleaner or toilet duck  Cus I am very skint for the next week or so

no you won't find this in Halfords
you have two choices.. either you find out your local Autosmart rep from the Autosmart website... or you use the Smart Valeting website
AS products are VERY cost effective and therefore they will last... G101 you can use for lots and lots of different cleaning jobs... I even use it in the kitchen! (it isn't food safe iirc) - the mrs swears by it for cleaning tiles etc you can use it for pre-wash on your car, wheel cleaning etc too...
You'd spend as much, if not more, money on carpet cleaners etc in the long run and they won't be as effective... this stuff works and smells quite cool too!
you'd need a 1ltr thingy of biobrisk for about a tenner and a 5ltr thingy of G101 for about £16 - remember these dilute down so G101 can make up to 50ltrs...

if you speak to the autosmart rep in your area you will save on delivery... they usually do cash transactions

Wicked, seems their customer service dept is only down the road.
Might use the vax in the meantime on the back seats and stick em next to a radiator. When the blizzard stops anyway
Thanks Guy I'll hit them up and see whats what

if they are mouldy you'd be wise to use some kind of biological cleaner on it to really get on top of it

Yeah its pretty bad in there dude to be honest, looks like a right health hazard lol.
When you say biological what do you mean? I wanna try and get some of it off with whatever I can find around the house in the meantime as I am quite bored. When I get paid i'll get on to the guys at Smart if the stuff is as good as you say it is.

product that has a better cleaning action on nasties that are causing smells... ie. contain enzymes that are more effective at cleaning using cold water
the autosmart products are the standard for valeters and detailers around the country... you won't find better value for the money
