Title: mk 6 gti
Post by: Gasman361 on 06 February 2010, 17:07
hi all, have had a total of 6 gti,s so far but the seventh one is being the most challenging. order placed 15th sept 2009 for 3 door candy white dsg, front and rear parking with park assist .monza shadows, delivery was originally oct/nov. but as everyone else confirms the wait continues. on 14th december i went into my local dealer for a update on the delivery ,to be told approx january. i the added to my original order xenons .yesterday i went into the dealers to sort out the finance to be told that as i took out a new order on the 14th dec the whole of the order would be subject to 17.5 percent vat and not 15 percent , to say i was unimpressed is an understatement can i as ask for you thoughts thanks

Sounds like you have been shafted. Call his bluff and cancel the order

The VAT rate went back up to 17.5% as of the first of January. I would of thought if you ordered the xenons after the first then that is all you would be liable for the 17.5% VAT rate. This being the worst case but for the whole car to be subject to the VAT increase is a bit OTT. I'd threaten to cancel and see what happens.

VWs covering the VAT offer, covers any car order placed on there ordering system (DIALOG) before the 1st December 2009.

VAT is added at time of invoice at the rate the goverment states at that time.
Most people get invoiced at the time they take collection of the car.

It sounds like your dealer cancelled your original order and placed a brand new one, rather than amending the original order. You could ask for a screen print of the DIALOG info to see what the placement date of the order is.

That VAT offer i stated above the terms of it were that the car was ordered before the 1st December 2009 and was registered before the 28th Feb 2010. But they have to opt into the offer to qualify.

Hi all just an update to the who is going to pay the extra 2.5% VAT. I have contacted volkswagen customer services , and spoke to a knowledgeable chap . He was more than interested when i informed him my car was ordered 15th September 2009. He gave me a case reference number and asked me to contact my dealer , and ask the dealer when the car was actually ordered with VW UK . The reason behind this is , sometimes when you order your new car it may not be actually ordered the same day ,this can be that if the dealer has already got his allocated cars it may be up to two months before your order is processed. fortunatley my car was ordered the next day 16th September 2009. as far as i,m concerned the extra VAT should be paid by volkswagen uk . i ,m waiting for a phone call back from the dealer when he has spoken to someone higher up who deals with volkswagen HQ i,ll keep you all posted.

Had a phone call from my vw dealer to inform me that the man from VW HQ says yes .
That is yes they will pay the extra 2.5 percent VAT . the deal is if the car arrives 28th Feb then I will take delivery . As the car is being built week 7 (that's next week ) approx 2 weeks to ship over then that takes it to 8th march So all in all good news . Just goes to show a calm approach is always best as
Jumping up and down will get you knowhere

Well I hope for you it is a march divert and the new 10 plate. However dont bank on it asyou car could be shipped end next week if gets built mon/tues. Odds are in your favour especially with a bit of snow on the way.

to be honest after a six month wait sooner rather than later would be good as only i would know if it was a (59) or a (10) plate as i have a private plate

You may find some of us set a presidence with VW for this outcome with discussions with VWcs for the past 4+ months

I presume that vw uk are painfully aware of the ongoing gti saga , and have put in place this scenario for customers who shall we say make their feeling known . By the way threatening to cancell the order may indeed be what the dealer wants , he will have a car he knows he can sell with no discount and at full 2010 price.
