Hi guys
I've had my car for 4 months and cover just over 4k miles. It was serviced before I collected it and this morning its came up on the display that I have 800 miles until a service. Car has almost 50k on the clock and is meant to be on the long life servicing.
Any idea why its came up so early? My thinking is that the service counter wasnt reset when it was serviced.
Thanks
Andy

Was an Indy VW/Audi specialist. Good job he's only 10 mins away. He's spot on so we'll see what he says.

You can re-set service interval yourself on the MFD. There's instructions in the 'Maintenence & Info' section.
99.9% sure that only works for T&D though. :undecided:

If it's a GTI then you should really be on T&D servicing anyway (every year or 10k miles which ever is sooner).
If I were you i'd just reset it myself, that way the service reminder will default onto T&D.
-
I think you can only do this if you have the highline rarther than the midline ?.
-
Well been and got it reset without any probs. He reckoned he'd just forgot to reset it. Plan on getting it serviced yearly no matter what the indicator says. From an engineers point of view its the best practice.

I agree. Personally I have been getting the oil and filter changed every 6k miles.
Lots of cars have the option of service intervals up to 20k miles or sometimes more, which just seems far too long to me even with modern high-quality oils.

I disagree, but only on the basis of the type of use/driving style/vehicle/etc...
I'm happy to run our A3 TDi on variable intervals, because it's a motorway pounder, but my GTI stays on T&D with LL oil.

Formally ask your guy/dealer to do a T&D service using LL oil, otherwise you'll end up paying for the more expensive LL service every 12 months! :afro:

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I was wondering how often I should change my oil and things of that nature on my GTI? It has done 48k miles and I'm pretty sure it was on the long life service plan, and was always serviced at a VW main dealer; also I have just had the DSG oil and filter changed.
I normally only drive a few miles a day, and it is pretty much only town driving and is not for very long (to and from the train station as its an hours walk or a 10 minute drive, and when I have to get up at 5.30 I don’t fancy walking) Sometimes give it a blast up the motor way on weekends, when I’m busy doing stuff or taking the girlfriend to Bluewater or Lakeside. But apart from that, as I said above its normally just town driving.
Any advice on what sort of service plan I should stick it on, and how often I should be looking at changing things like the oil, and air filter, and any other ware and tear parts?

With your usage you definitely need to stick with the 12months/10,000 miles service - if you intend keeping your car any length of time then I wouldn't skimp on servicing

You can reset the service indicator for t&d even with the midline

How do you do this?

I can't remember. It is in the manual though. I think it involves holding down the trip mileage reset button while turning the ignition on and something else...
I've never done it on this car. Come to think about it I'm maybe getting confused with my fiancee's polo :undecided:
I'll check the manual later ...

Cant be assed going to get the manual out of the car but
