A Question about Recaro seats fitted to Mk2 Golfs;
This is a strange one and I wonder if anyone can help with a definative answer...
I have bought this set from Ebay;
(http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae358/LeS2Audi/J261RKV/recaro-3.jpg)
Now I was told that this was NOT an orginal Recaro set... But I have been searching ebay.de and have found a number of similar seats that all seem to have the proper Recaro logo fitted into the back rest of the seats... Tese are not a bodge job and have holes & proper fixings to the seats.... See Pic Below...

So does anyone know if some German models had different Redaro seats fitted?
I know the UK spec ones were a fortune and the look like these... with the sculptured head rests..

and Edition ones look like this

I might be wrong but the 1st ones don't look like recaros.

Unless you're worried about resale value or scene points then who cares, its you that's got to sit on them.
The colour isnt 100% my taste, but they are a fine set of looking seats.

Top set look like standard GTI (or maybe corrado) seats recovered in leather with recaro logos fixed on them.

Thats the whole point of the question....
I have been told that they arn't recaro's ...
But there are to many others like 'em on ebay.de to make it a scam....

It's not just a question about money.. It's about researching the history and finding out if these are actual Recaro seats or just VW badged style recaros???
At first I thought they were just Genuine MK2 Leather GTI seats with the Recaro badge added to boost the price but as I have said there are too many knocking about in leather & cloth for this to be a one off... and the badges are all in the same position and are properly fitted to the seats...

The side bolsters on the top set of seats dont look deep enough to be recaro's to me,infact they look like the seats i have in my 16v which are half leather and are not recaros.

See the above reply...
But they are too good a finish to be "just standard seats" recovered.... They must be Factory Finish at least!!

Look at the second piccy as they are the same as the first set, the pic does not show the full depth of the bolster which I think is bigger than the standard GTi seats...
Could be that the 16V seats in Germany got Recaro badging??
Dunno... thats what I am trying to find out....

Have a word with ..joe on here. He's the seat master!

Look identical to my 'Recaro' seats, same shape, same badge. They're bog std pre-90 MK2 shape seats, I have swapped bolsters over from std seats into mine, frames are identical to std pre-90 GTI seats also. I'm pretty sure yours have been retrimmed too, bog std MK2 leather didn't have different colour piping AFAIK.
FWIW, I swear blind I saw a vag options catalogue pic somewhere years ago with these shape seats with the very same logo on them. It is also an old saying that all GTI seats were made by Recaro, possibly the early ones were. Alos to add an interesting dimension to this discussion, the backrest angle knobs on my seats both have 'Recaro' written on them, whereas std GTI seats do not.
Is the colour of the rear bench 100% the same? could be fronts are random option from another early model, rear bench trimmed to match. The catalogue I mention above I'm pretty sure was MK1 cabrio, and remember they were made by the coachbuilders Karmann, so different seat trim options might have existed plus special leather retrims etc. I know my seats arn't original fabric, they have been retrimmed in velour!
These are definitely not the MK2 Recaros as we know them here in the UK, the UK MK2 Recaros looked just like the Edition ones you pictured, just with varying fabric trim colours.
2nd & 3rd pic down the backrests don't look like any std VAG seat that I know of, look more like BMW/Vauxhaull Recaro seats! Bases look like scirocco ones to me, however interestingly they have plastic trims down the sides just like OEM Recaros do, plus is that an electric switch I spy there?

All optional Recaros for the Mk2 in Europe and the USA where shaped like the edition ones in the bottom pic. Also, the RECARO logo was always embroidered, not a separate badge (like Ford used in the RS Turbo).
The standard seats (which yours are) may well have been manufactured by Recaro, although I've never confirmed that as a fact. However they never came with Recaro logos on.

For what its worth, those cream ones may be made by Recaro (like rubjonny said) but only in the sense that they are the same as any VW seat.... which are all made by Recaro. I'd 99% say those cream ones have been re-trimmed and the badges added at that time.
