Hey all. I just got a Rallye front end to put on my mk2 GTi. Is there a How-To guide somewhere for it, I have searched the forums but can't find one. Also had a flick on Google but no luck.
Is it a case of removing the front bumber as per Haynes manual, unblot and unplug wiring then just re-assemble? I was told the Rallye front end will use the same bolts as the standard front end and also wire up perfectly due to being a post 91.
Any advice, hint, tips or opinions welcome!

doesnt it use a different slam panel? i cant be 100% though

I've got the Rallye slam pannel if that's what you mean?
-
easy. unbolt old grille, lights and slam panel, bolt on rallye front. for the headlamp connectors iirc you need corrado/passat plugs
-
OK, got the slam panel in place, but the grill doesn't fit right... It's fine on the driver's side and all along the middle but at the passenger side, it's off by about 2cm.
As for the lights, didn't link them up as I have no battery in my engine right now, but the connections on my GTi look like they fit straight in. If that's not the case, can you get the plugs new or Ebay/scrappy job for them?
-
is the grille genuine? if not that'll explain it. not sure on the connections not actually seen a pair in real life! passat should be easy to find in scrappy, mk3 golf ones may even work!

I would assume it's a VW part, but the guy who sold it to me wasn't clear. It does have the VW badge in it and everything, but where could I find the part number stamped to check it's real?
-
will be stamped in the plastic on the back somewhere!

Ok, according to my friend, the reason it doesn't fit is that the Rallye has wider front wings, hense why the frint end doesn't fit between them. Said best thing is to squeeze it in, bolt it on where I can and the cable tie it to the slam panel to hold it in.
Does anyone know of a better way of sorting this or shall I just bodge jobbie it?

Customise it, then bodge

I like your style mate.
Also, another point I'd like to raise... What is needed to go from twin lamp to single lamps? Just the setup from a Mk2 CL or something?
-
single light grille only. just leave the spotlight plugs disconnected! outer lamps are both dip and main beams, spots are just additional main beam lamps.
-
Ah, cool, thanks. Getting a second Golf soon, which is a small bumper model, so trying out single lamps and Ronal Turbo 15" on it. Cheers.
Still searching for a non-bodge job way of sorting the Rallye front end, lol.

Would loosening the bolts that hold the wings on and then pulling them out a bit help? I used this method to get a grill to fit that was obstructed by a dent. It does spoil the gap between the bonnet and and the wing though.

It's a thought, but then I'd rather not mess about with bodywork. Worst comes to worst, I'll trim a bit off the end of the grill so it fits in, whould be pretty hidden once in place properly.
