Hey everyone, ive got myself another mk3, and weirdly it feels damn quick!! Ive been driving an escort gti for the last year or so and when i got it i thought the performance was similar but when i picked the gti up on sunday i was amazed, wheelspinning out of junctions n that, haha. Forgot how much low down torque there was in em! Should keep me happy for a fortnight or so anyway! Anyway, it feels good to back in a golf even though i couldnt have a ciggy on the way home cos the drivers side window doesnt open as usual, haha. I'll look forward to asking you all loads of stupid questions about all the annoying things that go wrong with em.........
Needs a clean but here it is

welcome back!
I go through phases where i convince myself my car is slow; but then i drive another car, get back in mine, and all of a sudden it feels like its attracted some more horses.
-
Nice and clean GTI :) Good year too!
-
hello nice motor
-
Welcome back :afro:

welcome back.
Just a quick question for you all.... whats the last mk3 registration on..... I've seen a late R plate like you have but never on a S plate or newer....
Christo
-
I think the S plate was the last one, eventhough it's almost impossible to spot them anywhere. Mk3s were made until 1998, and since S reg is 1998/1999 that's why you can sometimes see them on a Mk3.
There's one on Autotrader actually:

-
Saw it on 'the bay' mate, was in milton keynes which aint too far to go really! And it made it all the way home without having to get the RAC involved which is always a good start!
-
Safe, glad to see you back in a golf. You got any plans for it?
-
looks nice all cleaned up :afro: needs to go lower, get rid of the huge gap between tyres and trim
-
Yeah, thats what i was thinking of doing! Lowering and wheels!! Niiice one!!
-
Well, I havent posted on this thread in a long time so I thought I would add a few pics
The mods have finally started happening. I spent most of the year ironing out all of the little problems that came with the car - a new clutch, new brakes, seals, gaskets etc. Now it is finally running well with no issues and I have slowly started spending my limited cash supply on better things.
A few pics of what I have done -
when i got her
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC11212-1.jpg)
fitted a new exhaust
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC11767.jpg)
painted the calipers red
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC11773.jpg)
painted the wheels
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12022.jpg)
took some nice pics
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/photo2.jpg)
painted the needles red
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12084.jpg)
my favourite mod so far - a 40mm drop
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12283.jpg)
I wish I had some nice clean pics of her now she's lowered but theres no point getting my detailing (hot water, bucket and sponge) cap on in this weather.
Undecided on what to do next, probably a deep front splitter, steering wheel, better wheels and an anni interior (when funds allow). Comments welcome.
-
Excellent progress
-
looks gd mate likin the progress & the plans uve got planned
-
Already seen what it currently looks like but thats loads better than when you got it... wheel colour and drop makes a huge difference.
-
Bloody hell! i didn't even know you had a project thread!
as i've said before good work so far :afro:
I'm thinking smoked fogs, indicators, side repeaters and joey modded & film tinted headlights

-

Less than 8?!!
I did the badges the same colour as the wheels, I only have this picture of midway through the process though, they look quite good if I do say so myself.

Im lovin the idea of tinting stuff at the front, still havent got the balls to attempt the joey mod though. Maybe when Ive got enough cash for spare headlights I will do it!
-
It's a piece of piss joey modding them! There's a mini how-to guide in my dub rides thread somewhere
-
Kept all this quiet Craig, looks so much better mate.
What paint did you use for the wheels and the badge? I took my badges off ages ago to paint cus they were in a right state but forgot all about it in the end.

Used rattle cans from Halfords mate. The finish is quite good actually, its Peugeot graphite grey. I think halfords spray is good stuff, my old golf had nearly had a full respray using em.
Any luck selling your mk2 mate?

Another small update - my 'bargain' second hand G max kit wasnt such a bargain in the end as one of the shocks is super soft and bouncy, had to tap my mum up for the cash to buy some new front shocks, which I will probably get a garage to fit as I cant be arsed with doing it again.
You buy cheap, you buy twice.
Also, I noticed that the girlfriends polo had smoked side repeaters, which are now looking nice on the side of of my motor!
She wont even notice. Pics to come later.
-
Pay a garage to do a job you can do   It will be so much easier now you have done it once and the bolts will be easier this time. Sae some cash and get it done yourself Mate. The spare cash would buy a nice deep splitter.
-
The stolen side repeaters. :lipsrsealed:
And at £80 to fit the front shocks I'll probably end up doing it myself.
-
You better do it yourself, or i'll punch you in the face!
-
Badges look good now their black shame you had to buy new shocks looking good anyway mate
-
Fitted the new shocks today, it certainly took alot less than the 9 hours it took me the first time round  I also used new top mounts and then had the geometry and tracking sorted out. Feels good now.
-
Big thanks to deano for joeying some headlights (you dont need to use an oven ) for me and then swapping them for mine! An excellent mod and cheap to do.

Headlights look good.

Headlights look good.
Agreed, it's such a simple but effective mod
-
Looks good Mate now get that splitter cleaned and fitted and then get some pics up. Will make the world of difference
-
With the 2012 calender in mind, Ive been practicing with the camera. I know its a bit early but I wanna get in it next time!

Think I need to black the trim up, fix the side strip and do summat about the fogs. Any other suggestions?
-
Looking good :afro:
A photography tip though, in a picture like this:
Have the wheels facing the other way
-
^^^ Agreed.. Also what camera are you using?
To be picky I would also say that lighting/exposure is an issue.
Too Dark
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12523.jpg)
Too Light
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12525.jpg)

-
Well, I painted my grille slats black yesterday and did this to the badge
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/snifferdog18233/SDC12783.jpg)
but it looked crap and like my car was wearing a red nose so I painted the red bit green instead, what do you think?

-
Why have you gone and done that!
-
Why have you gone and done that!
Its cos of the ridiculous cost of tax mate, I cant afford to run 2 cars and the mk4 is better for the expanding family.
-
Hi mate i wasn't going to say anything as it might sound a bit rude i do apologise truly but can't you sell the mk4 and get a mk3 5 door which is imo the best shape since mk1. Keep your luvely 3 door
-
I know what you mean mate and it isnt rude cos I kind of thought that myself  Thing is, the mk4 is growing on me,even since I painted the calipers I started liking it more. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. :undecided:
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
