........i would say crap mate never even heard of them ???.Don't skint on rubber,if you'r on a budget have a look at the Vredestein ultrac sessanta great value for money tyre.Loads of mk5 GTI owners use them, inc me.

I'd go with the 'never-heard-of-them-so-must-be-sh!t' mantra.
I've run Dunlop SP Sport 9000 - which were sh!t - and Avon ZZ3, which were excellent before they went under 3mm left of tread.
have a look at the Vredestein ultrac sessanta
^^^^^ Vredestein compete with the big boys on performance, but are relatively cheap. Linkies:-

I'm rocking Vredestein's too at the moment.
My local tyre fitter doesn't even stock the Nexen's , which just about says it all

If you are on a REALLY tight budget then you could consider buying some part-worn tyres off ebay, but a premium brand.
There are bargains to be had, although I will admit that you take a slight risk as you don't know exactly where the tyres have come from and some have had puncture repairs.

Nexen tyres are a bag a Shyte!!

I had Nexens N6000's fitted on my Jetta on 17 inch wheels. I replaced them after 6000 miles with about 8mm of tread still left to go. Cold and wet weather and you may as well have slicks on. No grip - scary at times! In a word - dont bother!

Another 'budget' tyre well worth looking at is the Falken FK452's. Had them over a year now and cant fault them, still got 5mm on the front and 7 on the back too.
Mk4 owners seem to slate them but they seem to work with the mk5 chassis very well. Much much better than the Dunlop Sportmax's they replaced...
-
Also worth a look at is the new Hankook V12 High Performance tyre. Ive got them on now - and they are very very good

Nexens are horrid

Hello from a mk2 nosey neighbour.
I had 4x on mine when i originally got it, they have all been replaced.
The back came out on a wet day going round a large roundabout at low-ish speed. Could not believe it!
