Title: GTI Idle
Post by: adw555 on 03 February 2010, 10:45
Anyone with a GTI mk 6 ever find that when you come to a reasonably abrubt stop, the engine idle sits higher than normal?..between 1100 and 1400 sometimes..

DSG or manual?

If manual, was the clutch up when you stopped?  Otherwise idle = nil

when i first turn over my mkv gti it sits a bit higher normally at around 1500 revs and then settles down to just below after around 10 mins of driving

ALL cars do that, its like the old chokes, warms the engine up ;)

Also it maybe you have the aircon on try it off as the pump can demand the revs higher for a short time.

it does it intermittently when both hot and cold. A quick blip of the throttle brings the idle back down to normal. Very annoying and can't seem to find a pattern to it. Have had this on two mk6 GTIs now..

Didn't someone on this forum eventually reject their car because of this issue?  If not it was something similar ...  VW couldn't find the fault despite much investigation

I believe it is Mr OP himself who had this issue

yip...first one was rejected as after 6months problem was still there and despite it logging errors about 'eratic idle' and the dealer changing the throttle body + other parts....the new car arrived this week and has done it once last night..pulled into the drive and car was idling at 1400 rpm..when fully warm. A quick blip of the throttle dropped the revs back down to normal....can't believe it!

Your getting paranoid

hmm, more fed up than paranoid...two brand new GTIs from the same dealer with the same issue...I could accept it if others were noticing it, but it's the fact that the first one logged faults with 'erattic idle' that shows it's not normal...maybe be time to get well rid and go and buy something different.

Thats really weird.  I can understand your irritation!

my car does this, has done it from day one, and solution is exact in that when I blip the throttle it goes away. hot cold, after a long drive, during a drive, any given moment basically.

remap?

thanks Craig...wow...so I'm not the only one then!! The first mk 6 (that I rejected) did it a lot and did log lots of errors about it. It would also rev itself sometimes to over 2K rpm. The new white one does it occasionally but never as bad as the first one...so I can live with it.

Just surprised not more people complain about it.

This happened to me yesterday for the first time. Quick press of the pedal and it disappeared.... so far

Hope I'm not tempting fate but mine never does that, always sits at 800rpm.

By the way, [off topic I know] have you had any tugs from the boys in blue regarding the spacing of letters/numbers on your plate?
