After some fibreglass panels for my mk2 to lighten it up for the track. Having trouble finding places in U.K, but found these in Germany. Long shot, but anyone had any dealings?

I would be interested to know how you get on with these panels......was thinking about doing the same...

Might have a punt with the tailgate and see how it goes, I know they are different sellers but both have decent feedback and looking at the english feedback replies, seem to pack them well. See what comes of this thread and order it tomorrow
-
You could always ask the seller a question, most Europeans speak English or know someone who does. but looks like it's worth a punt. I'd def be interested as not only are they lighter but they also dont rust, YAY!
Will watch with interest.

I got lil fibreglass skirts on mine and they chip to feck, they were sprayed about two months ago and already needing a lick. Cant imagine other pannels ending up much better
-
Could be interesting to post a tailgate from Germany.

Bootlid should be fine for stonechips I reckon, and the doors not to bad compared to a sideskirt. For my trackcar anyway tbh buddy
Have a mate with a brother who lives in Germany and is supposedly driving over in March, so will send the bootlid to him, fingers crossed (less distance less damage hopefully lol) If so can report back on the quality. Will update in a month or so

Sounds like a plan, hope it works out good, I reckon with a decent paint that they shouldn't be too bad at all... Fingers crossed.

Sounds like a good plan with getting it collected.

I was thinking last night what i could make then i stumble across this. I am a grp laminater and im trying to find out whats available and what people actually want cos i could do some panels and they wouldn be crap.
I got made redundant a while back and i just got a job miles away from the iow where i live but really id like to start doing a few bits on my own.

Defo think there'd be a market here as people don't want to fork out for CF and more and more mk2's are becoming trackday cars... I'd want a front clip and tailgate...
-
Fibre glass bonnets and Boot lids would be popular, doors less so but you'd probabl;y still shift a few.
I reckon you should knock some up and see how much they cost you to produce and go from there. I'll certainly be looking to fit a fibre glass bonnet and bootlid in the future, maybe even wings. Doors I'd probably keep steel as flappy FG doors are a pain!

Thats good to hear. Its something i will look into doing.
-
I'd certainly be interested in a bonnet and boot which is skin only to save extra weight.

Weaz GTI - I will put off buying for a few weeks until you decide where to go with this then. Put me down for a bootlid
Be good if something comes of this, as clearly there is a market
-
something was looking into a while ago, but my GRP skills haven't yet been optimised, made a bonnet mold but the bloody vent was a problem, eventualy smoothed it over but wasent happy with resulting finish, at some point will have a 3rd attempt at making an optimal mould
-
i was offered a composite laminating appreticeship back on 04, but decided to become a diagnostic radiographer instead. How ive regretted that decision when i could have had my own sideline for years!

I would definately be interested in a bonnet and boot for starters. The rest of the front would have to wait for funds.
-
I will be making moulds soon but do need to know what sort of quality you lot would want i mean do you want it light as possible for trackday use or a more solid sturdy item that will still be lighter than the original?
-
Price dependent I'd be interested in bonnet and boot, provided they're plenty light.

Like the page3 girls in the background of the photo's for roof skin. Makes a garage a garage

Good link with Performance Trim.
Just got an email off smith and deakin, and they do mk2 golf bootlids and bonnets and are same price as mk1. Both fibreglass bonnet and bootlid are £100 cheaper than performance trim.

No worries, I put it in my favs after you posted it last time.
-
so did anyone get any of these?
-
dunno i'm about to pull my thumb out and dust my mould off and see what i can make with it tho
-
would that be for yourself or are you looking to knock loads of them out?
-
Im gonna get a smith and deakin bootlid soon
I asked about the strength of the fibre glass bonnets that performance trim do and they are honeycombed so wont flap about at high speed (heard some do even with bonnet pins)
Found a czech company that do fibreglass doors
