Got a new project being a Gti Cab H plate with FSH,every old MOT, stickers in place and excellent nick but with a blown head gasket that I will put right :-\
Alloys lacquer have peeled so I tried a spare set of Corrado BBS G60 alloys 33 offset i think, when the car was trolley jacked up the alloys seemed to be fouling the shock absorber.........do I need spacers to get these on and what would people suggest 10mm with standard bolts?
::)
Also where is the best place to get the socket to attach to a torque wrench to undo the headbolts?
Planning on leaving the car pretty standard so would a ported and flowed head be worth it on its own? Guessing not unless an exhaust and filter are fitted?
I'll get some pictures up at the w/end
Thanks

If you are going to pua a 10mm spacer in, I would thing about getting some longer bolts.

Yea 5mm max for standard bolts.
No point at all to flow the head without filter/exhaust.
Do those first anyway and they will give approx 5% increase in power. Depending on what u actually go for.
S'pose ur thinking of getting it flowed whilst ya got the head off. good time to do it, but without filter/exhaust you wont see the full benefit.
An engine is really only a complicated air pump, the faster it flows thru the more efficient/powerful it is. But ya have to do the whole thing not just the bit in the middle!

thanks for the help, my idea is to keep the cab pretty standard as Ive already gone to town on my G60 Corrado and like the idea of having one car original

The exact opposite to me - One heavily modified cab (below) and one very Standard VR6 Storm. Though I have a few engine tweaks under its bonnet!

Cab looks great !
Another quick question......do I have to lock the timing when I take the head off, do I need any special bars to get the manifold off the head
cheers
