This place might have something similar http://www.automobiletrim.com/clearance-fabric.html Don't know if you have to buy a certain length in metres though.

This sort of thing, I would only buy the genuine thing, for the sakes of a round of drinks! you may run into all sorts of problems, if the seal is marginally too small, you may get water leaks, and wind noise, or, If the seal is too large, it may restrict the smooth operation of the opening mechanism, causing the cables to stretch, or snap...

exactly what i have concluded thom!! i dont want to be thinking the cheaper alternative is doing its job only to find my car is soaking wet

Mine never fitted properly.. It did to the roof, genuine one this is, and then I tried to fit the panel and the seal was always too tight and wouldnt compress enough to shut the roof proper.. Scirocco roof, Golf 2 standard roof panel, x2.. 2 different cars at that!! Can't make sense of it? Anybody got any good ideas?

Guy at the Bristol Sunroof Centre said to me remove the plastic insert in the seal, it will still work and fit in the gap as itll still be stretchy and fill the gap.. But I;m worried it may just collapse over time and open up without that rigidity!  :undecided:

doesnt make any sence to me either, done the same on both mine and a tilt + slide with vag seals, both went in fine!

Spot welds on the aperture can swell due to rust, causing excessive friction, also, never lubricate with WD40, this will eventually cause the rubber to start gripping the edge of the roof, always use french chalk, or the chalk that is supplied in a puncture repair kit instead

If your defelctor tilt arms are rusted then make sure you poke a long wire down some of those drain holes just incase they are blocked and water just sits there and rots the sunroof.
Universal ones are fine you just need to cut more rather than less due to the stretchyness of the rubber.
I would use a rubber hammer just to tap it in flush!
There are rubber conditioners in liquid form all it does it keeps the rubber soft if you dont open the sun roof that oftern the rubber starts to get hard and thats when the seal fails!

Just replaced mine at £46 inc vat, cant beat original parts :grin:
