the spec sounds mental, while the car looks subtle - well, as subtle as a rallye can look!

were you after a rhd conversion?

standard rear lights look odd! going for the street sleeper look :)

Almost makes me wish I had seen it before I bought the Storm.
I cant imagine there would be much that would keep up with it.

Probably a pessimistic question, but is it definitely a Rallye? Is there a site where you can check chassis number to confirm what it is (if you're bothered that is!)

Probably me being a bit of a BGB (Big Girls Blouse), but you could actually buy a bodykit many years ago to give the arches the look of the Rallye. If I were converting a car, fitting that bodykit would (I imagine) be less hassle than converting from LHD to RHD, and by using, say a std 16v, you would be sacrificing a lesser car for conversion.

I also thought that all Rallyes had part/full leather? that looks like its got late Mk2 16v door cards in it. I know the seats have been changed for Corrado or Mk 3 items, but why would you dump leather door cards in favour of those ones (which don't match the seats either).

Also, are those rear light clusters right?

Not my intention to pick holes in it, lets face it, it looks awesome, and the spec suggests its an M3 killer, just want you to be sure you know what you're buying and the seller is being honest ;)

I just found out the following info -  :-[

"That car was in the back of THE GOLF september 2001, was done by someone called Allan Fishburn at the Golf Centre in Darlington. It has a 5sp VW Motorsport box brought through Gemini. It was a stolen recovered, engine, gearbox, headlights and wheels stolen."

^^ i would say at the very least it would have to have originally been a G60 synchro.. or you'd spot it a mile off as a look-a-likey.. but no reason to think it isnt the real deal.

If the conversion work is a tidy as it looks in the pictures.. and it runs fine then i'd knock him down to ?5500 .. if you come across as a genuine VW fan the seller would rather sell it to you at that price than to some joe bloggs off the street for ?6000 (well.. i would anyway)

Now please stop showing me pictures or Rallyes .. if i didn't do silly amounts of miles or could afford 2 running motors i'd have one by now ?:'(
the old 1.8T may have to go in favour of a diesel dog as it is ?:-[ ?:-\

corrado 2wd traction control....wonder how they got that to work in a 4wd car???

id be checking the VIN myself to make sure its a genuine rallye shell.

the spec does sound unreal though. must go like stink

looks awesome and if it is a stolen recovered then you can understand the changes that have been made. best thing to do would be to phone this allen fishburn and ask him what the deal is. he's bound to remember a car like that and at least you'll know a bit more about the history.

if you get it, change the rear lights (as you said) the interior and the wheels and you'll have a sorted car! it would also be worth paying a vw expert to give it the once over, just for peace of mind if nothing else.

RAC have it down as a registered G60 too.
Check this website out if you want to quickly spec a particular registration plate. You just have to register before using the service, I've found it well useful.

Hi. I live near Darlo and actually had a look at this car when Allan was selling it for 7k. But at that time it also had a supercharger strapped to it! He did say that he could take it off if the insurance was too high though. Personally i dont care what the car started out as because the finished article is amazing! I have seen other cars hes done such as a Lupo with audi TT engine dash and running gear and a 4wd mk4 golf with a 220 bhp deisel engine in. All the cars he does are amazing in spec and quality. Personally i would buy it and get him to put the supercharger back on! I used to have his number but have deleted it. If you want i can find it out again.

I think if you do a bit of homework and listen to advice that people have said already then you will be sure yourself, best advice so far is to ring this Allen guy up first as gtijoe said, he'll understand I'm sure. But it looks quality, I hate seeing pics of Rallyes as it makes me really, really want one. I can't even read jvs posts these days  ;) :D
