Could anyone shed any light about a pre ignition fault?????????
-
PRE-IGNITION
Carbon deposits form a heat barrier and can be a contributing factor to preignition. Other causes include: An overheated spark plug (too hot a heat range for the application). Glowing carbon deposits on a hot exhaust valve (which may mean the valve is running too hot because of poor seating, a weak valve spring or insufficient valve lash).
A sharp edge in the combustion chamber or on top of a piston (rounding sharp edges with a grinder can eliminate this cause).
Sharp edges on valves that were reground improperly (not enough margin left on the edges).
A lean fuel mixture.
Low coolant level, slipping fan clutch, inoperative electric cooling fan or other cooling system problem that causes the engine to run hotter than normal.

I had a dodgy N75 which led to pre igntion....

mine was just a quick google :P so dont hold me to any of that

I got told by a vw mechanic today no matter what i do i wont be able to fix the fault codes the car is showing
He basically said the engine is knackered and to cut my losses and get rid.
Is this right or can anyone help?
-
Got the codes?
-
P0113
Intake Air Temp.Circ High Input
P0341
Camshaft Pos.Sensor Circ Range/Performance
P1146
Mass or Volume Air Flow Circ Supply Malfunction
ive replaced the camshaft position sensor and had 2 new mafs all geniuine parts and nothing. The other fault was a new one yesterday.
got the codes cleared twice and they just keep coming back. car will not accelerate properly like its not firing on all cylinders. its also burning alot of oil but i hear the 2.0 gti do that anyway.
-
My guess would be damaged wires to the MAF :undecided:

Had the wiring checked today and every things fine .
ive been told the only way to fix it is to replace the engine but that cant be right someone must have had this fault before and resolved?
Its been to vw and three other vw specialists and nothing just keep getting charged for looking at it
i cant sell it either not when its running like it is.
Do you know anyone who's clued up on the 2.0 engine's???
-
anyone????????????
-
does anyone know where the coolant temp sensor is on 2001 gti please
-
looking at the engine from the front it will be on the right side of the engine. remove your engine cover and it'll be there. have a look in the maintanence section for fitting guide and it shows you the location
-
Defo Cut your losses
and get a new mechanic
A good mechanic will give you a reason why the engine has to be changed, Pre ignition is a unrequested combustion which will be fuel and heat realted timing, It can be easy to diagnose with trial and error testing. Did he do a data logging session using vagcom?
Can you shed some more light on the fault?
Do you get a fault code?
Symptons?
Conditions?
All the time or every now and then?

There the codes i got on wednesday after having a new maf and camshaft position sensor.
the car stutters like a misfire in 1st 2nd and now 3rd. Over the summer it was intermittent and went away for about 3 months. Then when this cold snap came kept coming on and off but there was no problem in driving pulling in all gears and mpg was spot on.
Since the turn of the year cel came on and hasnt gone off and driving it is getting near impossible. I cant sell it the way it is i just wanna fix it and get a 1.8t.
The vw mechanic has told me he's checked for wiring on the maf and cps and came back with nothing. surely there must be a way to fix this?

Yeah mate! When do you want it dropping off?
-
anyone think this could be a coolant problem? Is it worth swapping the engine temp sensor?

Hello,
For what it costs I would get a new temp sensor fitted, it will take around 5 mins max. Just do it with a cold engine.

Im having a beast with it yet again ! now ive just found all the leads have snapped well 3 out of 4. i must have bought the worst golf vw have ever made.
