Isn't Kells running 8's on a 80mm drop or something?!

I'm sure you'll be fine if it's only dropped 45mm!

Kells is running 8j all round, 7j with 195/45/16's will be fine.

yeah, , kells got 8j on rear with like a 80mm drop but believe arches are flared/rolled.

just don't want to pay out for a set, refurb, new rubber and adapters for it to rub at all even with a car load.

hmmmm, do you know of a cost?

how does the ET of the D90's come into effect?

If you get an 8j at ET52 with a 30mm adapter then you will have an et of 22.

Mine dont  catch but my rear suspension is pretty stiff. I can get a couple of mates in the back no worries!

so a 45mm drop with either 6j or 7j all around be fine!
Title: Re: Design 90
Post by: spunkymonkey on 28 January 2010, 22:10
Yes but i would avoid the 6j, they have no outer lip and are too narrow. 7J i the way forward, or 7's FR and 8's RR. Its the adapter width and tyre size thats important.

YO :-)

yeap im runnin 8j all round (front and rear)  i had slight rubbage on the front rivets for the gti arches (im runni g 30mm adapters all round too)

so i flaired and rolled the arches (all 4 of them), trimmed the gti trims as the HAD to stay coz i love the oldskool look, and i lowered it a bit more, i can have 4 people in the car and nail it round bends and it still does not catch, i could get a much bigger wheel unde the arches

i reakon if you rock 25mm adapters you will never have a issue, especially on a 45mm drop, mine is 80 possibly 85mm

hello. . .

sounding good! so 8j on rear with my 45mm drop will be easy?

also price. . few sets on ebay with no tyres and in need of a refurd. . bid it upto £150 but still reserve not met. . bit steep?

I paid £300 for 5 8J rims with new 195-45-16 tyres and adapters. £150 is about as cheap as they will get.

see . .thats a steal in my eyes!

if i could get a set with new rubber AND adapters for £300 that be perfect!

but a crappy set i cant even get for £150.... so plus adapters at £155 (that i've seen them for) and rubber for them gonna cost a fortune!

the days of getting a good straight set of D90's for 300 quid with new rubber and adapters is long gone

you will struggle to get a good set not refurbed for that price (and with porsche size rubber on)

adapters your looking at 150 easy for the set, probable more now (Fk or H&R)

rubber is at least 50 a corner for owt decent and a propper refurb starts at 250 +

then theirs the centre caps   metal ones are expensive, colour crest metal ones even more, and they are just about always tatty and need a refurb which is not easy, believe me i did my badges myself (look in my dubrides thread)

new caps at the dealers are about £40 EACH

oh, and most sets of D90s that come up for sale are 6j front and 8j rears, i had to buy 2 sets and sell the 4 6j's on as a set

True, i have had mine for 2 years now and i dont think the guy i bought them off really had any idea what he was doing. They were originally destined for a vr6.

its a classic wheel, dont get board of them i wouldnt think, the good thing about them is they hold their value, so if you have a good set, you will always get your cash back

+1

8J all round ftw!

But no stretch for me unfortunately! Get pulled over weekly driving a Mk3 GTi "slowly" in North London :(
And its not even stolen ;)

So am going to run 215/45/16 for near zero stretch!

running 7j all round, 205/45 and 25mm adapters still gonna be cool with my 45mm drop?

Will 205/45 give it a little or no stretch on my 7js?
Also will any tire people do stretch tires?

You want 195 if you want a noticable stretch. But why?
