Castrol Edge 5w30

I'm on long life intervals and use Mobil 1
-
Apparently Mobil 1 is not approved by VW for use in the 2.0 TFSI engine.
Castrol Edge 5W/30 is what you want.
-
Well it's what the VW dealer has put in my car fro the last two services and it's what they are selling in their parts dept. It's the Mobil ESP 5w 30 and it does have the requited VW code so I'm not sure where you get that info from.

Mobil 1 didn't used to be VW approved but the ESP oil your stealer is using is fully approved by VW. But only the 5w/30 ESP one, none of the other Mobil oils are VW approved.
-
My mistake, apologies.
Didn't realise that they now had one that's approved by VW.
I'll get my coat............. [goes off to swat up on oils]

I'll check with VW but that can't be correct or someone needs to tell the Cardiff and Bridgend VW dealers then as the top up oil i've bought from them is the 5W 30 ESP Mobil 1 which they also filled my car with on the long life intervals (I find it odd that both independant dealers would get that wrong (they are now under the same name after Cardiff VW went under but at the time of my services they were indpendant of each other).
Mobil 1 didn't used to be VW approved but the ESP oil your stealer is using is fully approved by VW. But only the 15w/30 ESP one, none of the other Mobil oils are VW approved.

Sorry typo, should have said 5W/30 ESP ... will correct in my original post. :embarassed:

A quick Google serch suggests the Mobil 1 5w 30 is used by VW dealers. phew.
It'll be in for a service in a few weeks so will be interesting to see what they put in this time (I still have 4 litres of Mobil 1 left though so I hope they haven't changed it!).

My car is on long life services, but some one recommended to get the oil changed every 8k miles rather than 20k. I use a 5w 40 oil which fits vw spec for normal services is this ok?
-
Had me worried there but thanks for the reassurance. Car is out of VW warranty now anway but I plan to keep the FVWSH so good to know I've been using good oil. I have used Mobil 1 in the Elise's and the Beamer I had - it'snot cheap but I think it's one of the better ones.

Chainging the oil more frequently is always a good thing but I'm not sure about the 5w 40 compared to 5w 30 sorry.

easy go to vw dealer he should ask the reg and know from there if youre car has been serviced properly by vw and then he will sell you the same oil that they have been putting in when serviced thats what happens to me.
