Tried this one in the audio section without a response so thought I would try here
Hello
I'm fairly new here as I've just bought a Mk VI GTI. I'm hoping someone can help as I've just tried to get my iTouch working with my RCD 510 and it simply says device not recognised when I use the external media connection in the centre console. It works with the auxillary input but I would like to control it using the external media connection. The manual for the RCD 510 says that this is possible for iPod devices but I'm obviously doing something wrong! Any advice welcomed.
Thanks

As far s I know you can only connect the ipod to the MDI using the supplied ipod cable and not the USB cable.
-
You need the specific VW iPod cable. p no: 000 051 446 C
-
If you dont have the specific mdi - ipod cable it wont work also you may need a convertor down to 5v which most of the new ipods are.

You need the specific VW iPod cable. p no: 000 051 446 C
Which should have been included with the car.

Thanks for the advice, I've only got the USB connecting cable so looks like a trip to the dealer is needed

Don't let the dealer BS you into paying for it either. It was 15 quid originally, but should now be free.
I've used it the connect an iTouch to the RCD510 and it works fine :)
